Ideally before big bang there was only energy. Then when that energy reached enough temperature then nuclear fission happened and based on Einstein’s equation the energy is equivalent to mass so lots of mass and matter was formed and the energy is still accelerating but over a very long period of time slowly universe will become very cold as the stars will die and universe will end a cold death
