India Leads the World in Plastic Waste Production
- India generates over 10.2 million tons of plastic waste annually, the highest in the world.
- This waste accounts for nearly 20 percent of the global plastic output.
- Researchers highlight a 10-1 ratio of plastic dump sites to sanitary landfills in India.
- Nigeria follows as the second-largest plastic polluter with 3.9 million tons per year.
- High-income countries, despite generating significant waste, have better disposal systems, keeping them out of the top 90 polluters.

We should export it out to Africa like the US exported to China. Or just dump it right next to the great Pacific garbage patch in the Pacific ocean instead of polluting our landfills, water supply and air.
Tons of plastic imported by India from USA too lol
"The United States is by far the largest source of India's plastic waste imports, with over 60,700 metric tons shipped in 2023. This accounted for roughly 80 percent of the total volume of plastic waste imported into India that year. Canada followed in second, but by a wide margin, with around 9,500 metric tons. "
Why do countries allow plastic waste import?
Technically they don't. It happens under the table. Mostly illegal.
