MBA| ISB
I'm thinking of doing an MBA from ISB. But clueless on how to proceed. If anyone has experience, hit me up :) My goal is to become a product manager.
I work as a PM in a B2B SaaS startup and have an overall 4 years of experience all of which is in product management. Now, feeling a stagnant in growth and salary. I was wondering if I should try for an. MBA from IIMs or ISB?
My current package is around 36 LPA. I do not want to change my field and I like being a PM. Then does MBA make sense for me in long term?
In short, NO.
Better to switch firm
Well MBA is needed for you to move into senior roles if not now at least in the future. It would be a hurdle that could be hard to overcome if you don’t have one.
@RichDadsPoorSon why would an MBA be required to move into senior PM roles? i dont think its even remotely necessary at all. for other functions maybe, but if they want to consider remaining in PM, MBA is not needed
They are currently in PM with 4 YOE. They already feel that it’s gotten stagnant in terms of growth. Now if they’re planning to transition to a new role or even if they still continue as a PM they will still reach a point where they would need a MBA to move onto senior positions which would not be the role of just a PM anymore. When such a situation happens companies tend to prefer people who have an MBA.
That was the point I was trying to make. They might not need it at their current level but in a senior role it’s recommended. The earlier you get it done the better is what I feel.
it makes zero sense for you to do an MBA if u want to continue to be a PM. If u want to switch roles especially into the business side of things, then yes it 100% makes sense
There exists a good possiblity that you might end up in a pay worse off than your current one post mba. Hence you need to convince yourself that it is the right move and ideally you are better off doing it abroad or maybe an ISB
You are anyway doing good, Need a brand or want to network then go for it!
My opinion after coming with large preMBA experience and now with ~4 yrs of post MBA experience into PM role. MBA helps you grow in terms of knowledge and learnings and you should do an MBA for these reasons.
Growth is just the byproduct of these things eventually.
Having said that, in India like everything opportunities are lesser as compared to applicant hence sometime not always MBA becomes a filtering criteria while evaluating too many applicants for coveted role.
Do it from abroad if possible. In India same old ideas will be regurgitated.
