Same day there is a bday of your kid and a very important meeting on which you were working very hard since like last year and its very very important for your future perspective in corporate culture and its just cannot be postponed for whatever reason

There are two options.

  1. If you know already about your kid's birthday, you could have change meeting schedule if it's possible.
  2. If #1 is not possible, plan your kid's birthday a day after or over weekend. You could go to some place and spend entire day or two with him with full fun.

I follow this rule - Why we need to find win-loose situation if we can find win-win situation.
