Mass Lay-offs at housing.com (REA India)

Housing.com (REA India) ranked 3rd in the GPTW survey this year. They provide several awesome perks like, laying off without any notice, fucking their reviews just so that they could justify the lay offs, and threatening actions if anything came out on social media.

10-15% of the whole tech team was laid off (mostly freshers) apparently on the basis of low performance. It was all carried out by the higher management, not even the managers had any clue about the lay off happening.

The performance rating was rigged by the higher management who had no interaction with the tech people. They had this awesome idea of getting reviewed by people who we had never interacted with. Managers were merely bystanders who had no say in the performance review whatsoever.

PS: A note for the management --> Housing.com would be an employee friendly company only if you guys would give two fucks about employees, instead of Caring so much about the GPTW ranking like conducting hands on sessions and literally forcing people to put in good rating.

The rigged performance rating and the secrecy is so true. I got to know about my colleague getting fired when I opened his slack which was deactivated. Upon calling, he said it was all done in 5 mins, Forceful resignation, No Severance and was asked to post nothing on social media.

From my team alone 2 people have been laid off both freshers.

Isn't refusing to resign and making them layoff a better move for getting severance? @JadeArden/ any lawyers, help us understand this

I was laid off last year in February without any severance. I wanted to file a case but was advised by my family lawyer not to file as it would take several years to settle and get the judgement. It was better to get the relieving letter and bgv cleared then to fight them as the market was wide open so I was able to find a new job and started in a week with a 35% hike. Last month they fired CTO , director of engineering and 1/3 of staff in India and have 7 months of runway. Those bastards gave me an appraisal and promotion 4 months before firing.

How do forced resignations work?

Top level management seating, and asking you to resign. You are a fresher, you're afraid and you don't know what's going on. You can't contact anyone. They are threatening you if this goes public we would see the consequences.

What happens if we refuse to resign? I've just been working for around a year or so, so am not very aware of how these things work

Many of my colleagues who worked for years in housing.com got fired in 5mins.
Till now I have survived the lay off not sure when that 5min call will happen. These people asked us to fill the GPTW survey much before the appraisal and lay off scare happened.

Somebody mentioned it's only freshers. So how does "years here" go along?

Hahah when the results are announced they give ₹500 swiggy vouchers as a gift. Lol.

I feel they just must have waited for ranking to be revealed. Otherwise they would have fired earlier

Is this happening in tech or other teams as well? Sad to see this state of affairs.

The slack access and any other means of contact were cut off. But as far as I am aware it was tech specific.
