Mini Rant - On Campus Offer Delays

Heard from a junior today that one of the consulting firms is delaying their joining from August to January This is in line with what most other firms have done as well (MBB).

I saw the email as well, and the lack of any empathy was alarming. It literally said "We are delaying your joining from to Jan because of changes in training plan" and that we feel this is in your best interests.

I get that business would be tough, there are probably not as many cases right now, and hence they are doing this.

A) It is screwed up to break commitments for your joining date, just because you don't see as much demand around the period. These students are literally pumped about their first job, and to start off like this is just sad B) At least if you are doing the above, have the courtesy to explain the proper financial reason behind it

Overall, really sad to see what graduates this year are having to go through, it's just random.

They might not have requirements for so many people. So they do this so that that at least some of the campus hires find a different job and then their cost will reduce. Also if they onboard all of them and then layoff some or rescind offers then it harms the brand. So this is a better technique

delaying offers should also be as harmful to their image as revoking offers/ laying off.

Yes , but not as much as a direct revoke. OutsidePeople think along these lines - thoda delay hi to hai, kya farak padta hai, atleast job to hai haath me.

Same happened to me i i am graduated this year from btech in computer science from 3 tier college. I got oncampus placement on Nov 2022 and their joining date was 1 jan 2023 but due to bad market condition excuse they first keep extending my offer and finally after 6 months they revoked my offer as a fresher i dont have any contacts or experience to tackle this situation :(

folks u need to understand, u were hired in the peak time which came as a result of free covid money minted by feds. Bases on that everyone hired based on speculated growth 📈 to be followed in coming quarters. Now that money had gone, u are left like this. Don't worry things will get back to normal. About this mbb thing, yes heard it last month from my friend working at mbb. Just don't take bullshit risk if u have good job

Delayed onboarding across consulting firms (MBB too)

It seems like the bear market effects are down upon consulting firms now too

Got to know from multiple people that were joining top consulting firms that their onboarding is deferred by 6 months (across places like Bain, McK etc)

Layoffs at Bain India. At least 100+ people will be affected

Heard from people I know at Bain that they are laying off. This is mostly the first time an MBB is doing layoffs (earlier they would silently fire, or delay onboarding)

A friend got impacted. Seems like this could be 10-15% of their...

Which company were you obsessed with joining, but never could?

Trying to see companies that people here have had the dream to join, but didn’t ultimately work out. Have you now grown over it?
