Nirmala tai is looting us

Seems like since last year the focus of government has shifted from actually making beneficial policies to enable innovation and growth of India to just collecting taxes blindly.

They just want to harvest tax in as many ways possible and kill the middle class person.

First it was crypto.

Then us salaried individuals started receiving notices.

Then they levied 28% GST on online gaming.

Now they are also checking proofs for HRA allowance and other stupid stuff which wasn't done before.

I was wondering why there is a sudden increase in such incidents? Is the government hiding something? Are they running out of money?

Or are they just smoking weed just like us and making stupid rules?

I am thinking of making an app where you can enter your purchase and it will tell you how much tax you have paid direct or indirect. Atleast we should be aware how much govt is looting us.

They are doing this coz the tax payers don't have the spine to oppose. They will soon ask to pay taxes on many shitty things and still you and I can't do anything about it, cuz we are made to believe that it's good for the country. It's already almost the same taxes as the Britishers were taxing on us I think, remember we fought Britishers for the very reason that they were imposing a lot of taxes and looting us. The government is doing the same now with the tax payers, and yeah no one will ask anything coz you are the NPC for the government.
I have decided that I will not vote for BJP and ask all my close aides to do the same. Enough of these shitty taxes.

I think you have lost the bigger picture. When congress was in power, you had to pretty much stand in a queue to get a cylinder. These guys made it openly possible to get a cylinder.
You are given an opportunity here in India to study and earn. In return, its expected that you pay taxes. A lot of these taxes goes toward building infrastructure and social subsidy.

Here in Gurgaon, MCG charges 60rs for waste collection every month. Just 60Rs. A simple Swiggy order costs almost 4 times as much. Do you think 60rs by itself makes up the unit economics ?

I think it's kind of an elitist crybaby shit that you pay so much tax. For once we are actually seeing the results of taxes being paid. You are seeing a revamped railways ( not talking about Vande Bharat, but about other stuff as well, like capacity addition, timeliness, cleanliness, etc ), so much better roads. Power cuts though still an occasional part of life are getting lowered in rural areas.

I would rather see the result of my taxes in front of my eyes than in the hands of cronies banding together with an unfortunate acronym of "INDIA".

This government’s primary intention is to collect more and more taxes in whatever mean’s possible. They don’t give a f**k about anything. And then will brag every month/quarter about record GST collection! This government is pathetic to say the least! No accountability and arrogance is at its peak. We have come to a point where we can’t even question the government otherwise you will be termed as anti national.

The right question is what benefits are we as a citizens getting for the tax we are paying?

The infra, education, healthcare, opportunities, clean air, etc. In western countries if you take example of some of the developed countries the taxes are much higher upto 55% but the govt. there provide facilities.
Another problem is % of people paying taxes in India so all in all not everything is black and white.

QuirkyNarwhal
QuirkyNarwhal

Taxes in India go as high as 40% as well.

And you raised the right point. What are we getting for paying such high taxes? Roads clogged with water, sub standard transportation, traffic jams, etc.

And why is tax always looted from salaried people? Why are businesses not charged high taxes? I'm not coming from a socialist angle. I know businesses bring a lot of development to the country, but that doesn't mean they shouldn't pay high taxes.

In the end, businesses are run by salaried people.

GigglyDonut
GigglyDonut

The argument here would be - if businesses are taxed high, they'd move out and Indian economy and jobs will take a hit

A government needs to increase their tax collection in order to grow. Technically we've been growing but most (90%+) of the wealth is being concentrated in the hands of few who smartly pay least tax.

Another option is corporate taxes but they've already reduced due to very well known political reasons. This is one of the ways for them to get funding.

So they need to make up for that lost tax while increasing their tax revenue, so the last options are to increase the tax base or increase income tax. To increase the tax base you need to scrutinize better. This would upset their tax base of business where local donations come from. Most politicians would themselves be. We know how much local businesses evade taxes. They've self accepted their incompetence but saying that they need to implement 20% TCS on foreign transactions to "trace" it. They could've done that with 1% also.

So the last way is to increase income tax. The Honourable Minister has already said last year that salaried people are lucky that the government did not increase taxes when asked about an increase in 80C deductions. The new tax regime introduction also means the government is planning to do away with the old regime. Probably after next year's elections. They'll probably increase the taxes also since they need it.

QuirkyNarwhal

They won't be able to remove old regime. If they do people are gonna revolt.
