People who partake in hustle culture - how, and why, do you do it?

This is a curious question from someone who is exactly opposite to what hustle culture boasts about. It is also my attempt to understand how people are capable of pushing themselves to limits that are not natural, that too, for months and sometimes years.

Context on my contrarianism:

  • I don't have an ounce of inclination to push myself to work relentlessly. I don't thrive in such practice, nor do I want to put my health at unnecessary risk.
  • Even if I wanted to try to follow the hustle culture, I am physically incapable of doing it. My mind and body shut down after 2-3 days if I have long working hours. I don't compromise on sleep, but the toll of long continuous work hours, even for such a short period of time, is my bane.

For me it isn't a choice between can't or won't, it is both.

Hence the questions:

  1. Why are you doing this?
  2. How do your mind and body endure working for hours on end with less time to refuel with sleep?

That's what it takes sometimes. Athletes don't get medals by having a healthy or normal work life balance. It takes over their life like an obsession or addiction.

That's the cost of money fame and success. Pushing yourself beyond what you know to be possible for you.

Doesn't necessarily mean harming yourself. But you do need to push boundaries slowly and steadily to know how much you can take.

Actually, athletes do get medals with healthy lifestyle. Do they work hard? Yes. Do they take appropriate rest? Absolutely yes. If their training style was imbalanced with less amount of rest, they would get no where because of fatigue and being prone to injuries. This would risk their career, and you would never find an athlete doing such things.

I get everything about pushing yourself to find your potential, but I do not understand putting your health at risk for that money, fame or success. What would all this matter if you can't, or don't have time to enjoy it? Why do you need to overwork yourself to the brink of exhaustion, when the same results can be attained with a much more balanced life?
