Plumbers, Electricians earn more than an average engineer.

Saw this on Twitter today. Tech Mahindra hiring graduates for 3.25 LPA and 24*7 Shift timing. I talked to various people to get an idea of their pay. A) A plumber lives near my house. He said he earns 2-3k daily and works for 20-25 days average. He earns 50-60k per month. B) Electrician earns in the same range.

And other technicians and workers like this who are skilled earn a lot more than a software engineer. This is the hard reality. Students study for 16 years and pay 15-20 lacs college fees for this.

Welcome to the real world!

At the same time, you should know electricians/plumbers add more value to the society than a “fresher” TechM shift employee. If you’ve paid college fee that should not entitle you for a high-paying job. It’s just a privilege.

Sooner you realise this, better it would be.

I agree to this.

Why don't you compare a fresher electrician/ plumber with a fresher in tech Mahindra.... the fresher blue collar employee will probably earn 300 a day gaining experience

Can you extrapolate after 5 years for both? There was a similar comparison with cab drivers a few years back. Well the cab drivers did a bandh yesterday

For a TechM Employee If they don't switch Jobs.
Income in 5 Years considering hike of 10%. Around 20 Lacs.

For a Skilled Plumber/Electrician Average Rate 2000 per day working 20 Days a month with no price change for 5 Years and No extra contract work which pays more.
Income: 24 Lacs Plus No Income tax for him. No Prof Tax for him. No education loan for him.

While I agree to the points you mentioned. Life doesn't end after 5 years, in fact that's when the serious earnings start for most tech employees. So earnings after 5 years for techM guy will only go up. Also don't you think the plumber had to work under someone for first 2-3 years for peanuts to get to this skill level. So the calculation is misleading.

Tik tokers, youtubers make more money than the avg CEO in India. Welcome to reality. Where your education, brand does not matter as much as people would have you believe. Corporate Jobs is one of the least time efficient ways to make money, although a very low risk one.

If I look at certain high flying YouTube channels with 5million subscription, they are unable to get 1million views over a month. Definitely the world has moved out of COVID digitalization.

Corporate life gives you the best option to take risks when you want . It provides you with the smartest people to learn from and build network. If you still don't leverage the opportunity and want to live a peaceful life, still a very good deal.

Lol your plumber has 0 career growth chance but these students or freshers have a chance to grow to much better packages in the future with better working hours. This false comparison logic has been debunked many times, recommend you to have a bit of awareness

Well that's true. But you don't need to "Lol" at them.

Do you think plumbers are dumb? That they don't know how to grow their earnings beyond plumbing?

They hire others, get into other jobs that aren't strict about moonlighting, eventually start their own business or shop and keep expanding. Much more hustle and chops than an average engineer today.

The labour for a plumber in Bangalore is ₹900. Your neighbourhood plumber seems to be working in Ambani's house to get ₹3000 per day.

Bro visiting charge is Around 250-300. After that based on work they charge. It's not about my neighbourhood.
Also they do contract work in a new house or apartment where they charge 50-60k for the whole work. So on a good day earning 3000 is not a big deal for them. Yeah on an average 2000 is what he told and I have written.

welcome to free market economics, and there's actual shortage of skilled plumbers/electricians.

But they don't get yearly increments and promotions.

There's a chance that a SWE will be earning 2Cr+ after 20 yoe in his late 40s.

Plumber jobs will be making the same kinda money he's making today but inflation adjusted.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with plumbers/electricians earning more. What the fuck is wrong with people trying to put down these services as if they are some demeaning jobs?

In fact they are one of the most high paying jobs in more advanced countries
