I have experienced this.

We have spm here, but my reporting is to vp. So spm doesn't give a shit about mentoring/guiding

And now it has come to this that my work has quality issues.

  1. No PMF but top management pushing for growth and usage in consumer apps.
  2. No priority i.e everything is a priority
  3. reinventing the wheel
  4. Zero market research
  5. No connection of the team with end users
  6. Startup is making losses, pressure on PMs to push product in a direction that can make it profitable (but no real effort from top management to make it profitable)
  7. Anything goes wrong -> Credit to PM
  8. Anything goes right -> Credit to the top management

STARTUPS- Structure and strategy of the leadership team is often limited to interviews and Twitter threads. They are usually clueless and operate on FOMO/CEO wants Doing random things IRL, and running around like headless chickens.
You are always busy and firefighting and hardly ever get time to do thinking work.
Life outside of work is difficult (especially for Indian startups)

CORPORATES- Low execution velocity Team is spread and there is less hands on learning Charter is not exciting if you are thrown in a huge team such as AWS with 100s of other PMs Lengthy textbook processes are often frustrating for folks with high bias for action

Speaking from my experience: 1/ leadership thinking more about execution than what to build?
2/ no buffer between leadership and pms, most of them end up doing program management
3/ sucks, no resources for learning, no exposure to best practices
4/ any Tom dick and harry from iim join as pm, without them passionate about pm role

PMs everywhere in the world face just 1 problem: Communication

Leadership doesn't give clarity, Developers don't tell the entire thing, When we say something, others hear something else.

That's the biggest problem.
