Should I switch from Tester to Developer

I have 7 years of experience as a manual tester. In terms of my coding knowledge I'd rate myself 2/10.

I'm married with a daughter who will be turning 1 very soon. Considering the inflation and increased cost of living, I think my CTC is pretty average.

A developer having 2-3 yoe generally earns the same or more than I do. All my friends are earning shit ton of money and I feel like I can't compete with them.

I don't have to compromise on anything if I want it or need it but I know I can't live a lavish life with what I earn currently.

Here are some questions that come into my mind:

  1. Should I switch from testing to development?
  2. How much growth can I expect just being in testing?
  3. If I were to make a switch to development, what tools, language should I aim for(considering my coding is really poor)

Switching from testing > development is always good choice.
You can try to learn from counter part of your development. Ex: if you are working as web application QA start with web development.

Worst case if this doesn’t work out learn automation tools & coding and move to SDETs pay is slightly better than manual QA

Thank you for your reply. What tools do you think should I learn if I wanted to move to web development? Can you please list them out if possible?
