Two questions

  1. How can I buy a SGB on Zerodha?
  2. How and when can I start trading the SGB on Zerodha?

The whole idea is to encourage long time holding . It has tax benefits if held till maturity and it gives little bit interest also as compared to other forms of investment in gold
If you want exposure to gold u can take gold bees ETF or even a gold mutual fund .

Gold bond you may be eligible to sell after sometime but liquidity is very low , so it may not suit your holding period.

  1. They usually are shown in the Bids section. Look for the tranche buy period and you can buy them.
  2. Not too sure. SGBs are safe in investment instruments and generally folks don't prefer to treat them as shares

You can go to Zerodha Coin and buy it when RBI opens up the SGB tranche(primary market) or anytime from the stock market(ie secondary market). For the latter just look up for scrips starting with SGB.

I believe the former method has better benefits.

Are SGBs worth it? What happens if we buy from the secondary market instead of RBI? How is the interest calculated for those? Is the interest taxed as per slab?
