That is real, happens with everyone. Adults need 1500-2000 kcal per day just to maintain their current fat reserves and anything less is a calorie deficit. So, if you just burnt 500 kcal in 9.5 hrs, but consumed around 2000 kcal, then you are on your way to accumulate fat in the long run, unless you are burning those calories through other activities.
