Therapy : An Absurd Profession

THE POSITIVE SIDE: Sometimes you kinda eventually develop a soft corner for your therapist (especially if they belong to the opposite gender) due to the following pivotal reasons:

  1. They are perhaps the only person you have who "listens" to you and helps you de-tanglenhour thoughts

  2. Their tone is pacifying and welcoming.

  3. Sometimes when you are venting out, you logical side of the brain takes the back seat and your emotions take over. During such conditions, you end up trusting someone if they are listening to you with an active interest.

BUT BUT BUT !

THE APPARENT DARK SIDE:

  1. They do all the sweet talk for money. While it may seem like a hard pill to swollow, its just like any other medical profession like cardiologist or radiologist, who wouldnt even look at you if you dont have money.

  2. They will obviously judge you and talk about you to their close colleagues or intimate friends.

  3. They would want you to BE SAD so that they can get paid. Infact my therapist once clearly said that we only take 20% accountability for everything when I was thanking her (indirectly hinting that if something goes wrong its on me and if something goes right its also on me)

Thanks to my therapist I dont even trust my shadow anymore.

Therapy is a non sense that came up after American tv sitcoms became famous. Thank fully limited to big cities. It's most adopted by lonely couples/people with lots of money.

I dont see any difference between them and those financial influencers. Remember that guy in YouTube who teaches you to earn 1crv a year buy a Lambo or that trading academy guy who teaches kids and housewives to trade in stock market these therapy guys are the same.

Sir, you should go visit a local psychiatrist in a tier 2 3 city sometime. You'll find all kinds of cases including domestic violence, ADHD, bipolar, schizophrenia etc.

Most families don't even know what they're dealing with. Therapists help a lot with basic diagnosis and symptom management. The real problem is most psychologists and psychiatrists in India are learning outdated material, and there aren't enough of them to serve our population.

Therapist and psychiatrist are different. If am not wrong psychiatrist is a speciality after MBBs they are doctors. I didn't call psychiatrist as scam. I called the therapists. Who will "listen" to people. Bipolar, schizophrenia are serious illness. That require medical attention.

  1. So you expect doctors to treat you for free? 😂

  2. As if this doesn't happen in every other profession. At least personal details mostly aren't shared because of doctor-patient confidentiality (at least by professionals).

  3. That's a sign of a good humble therapist. Most work is done by patients themselves, good therapists are guides and mentors at best.

Not so dark imo

You totally blew it out of the context apparently

My point was, If someone listening to your woes has a financial component, it messes up with your emotions imo.
When people are venting out, they cant seem to draw the line between whom to trust.

However, I wouldnt feel attached paying 1000rs to my radiologist for my xray. This perhaps feels lighter and fair as it doesnt involve my emotions and trust.

I encourage you to reread this post and look at it from a different lens.

I mean without going through harrowing experience it’s tough to understand trauma. Most therapists are rich girls who have no clue about issues of common people . So how will they become good therapists?
I don’t have answer to it but eventually one has to call their own inner strength and gave the difficulties. Some old saints also work sometimes. Human’s resilience is very strong . draw into it.

Don't always need to go through trauma to be able to help people

I disagree I think empathy only comes when you really step into shoes of others. Watch this film “Son’s room” to know more

Therapist n psychologist i really find weird professions. Its emotionally taxing.

That's why both of them are mandated to get therapy themselves from other therapists.

I started therapy 2 months ago, it helped me a lot to get my shit upwards and start working on myself, my therapist clearly mentioned that the timeframe between the sessions will increase from 1 week to 2 weeks and then it will be monthly once to see progress. She also had clearly said that therapy won’t make a difference unless I make it work and put efforts on it. And honestly, I don’t exactly do whatever they say, because even tho you open up fully, they might make wrong conclusions. But what changes I saw is that, I started valuing my own thoughts of doing something, even if its a small thing like workout or stop eating junk. So find someone who tries to give impartial opinions but take everything with a grain of salt, because they are also humans. If they are trying to make you feel sad so they can milk money, you should be able to recognise it or else its partly ur fault
