Transitioning to Data Engineering

Is there anyone out there who was working in completely different domain such as some support project with 2.5+years of experience and with no skills similar to Data Engineering and who still managed to transition to Data Engineering.

Looking for some guidance. Thanks in advance

Learn the tools and technology. Add it in resume. Do personal projects using bigdata env. Build etl on your own.

Try to convert your project to an etl one. Mention that transformation was done by using Databricks and scheduling by adf or any orchestration tool you are using. Tweak your project eg. On Prem data is fetched using adf and placed in data lake raw layer, then using adb notebook in which you have written transformations, inside adf activity and placing transformed data in adls or any other storage.

I started my career in sales domain as a sales person, worked for about 1.2years in the sales domain and I started learning python, pyspark and sql back then. I’ve attended interviews and cracked Data engineering job, I joined as a fresher data engineer and I’m senior data engineer now. You can crack Data engineering interview if you have an Analytical mindset and have logical thinking along with some technical knowledge as mentioned above.
