What do you feel about Grapevine? Is there potential to become the next big startup?

Thoughts on the Grapevine app so far. Would you invest in Grapevine if you had the opportunity? Do you think there is potential?

I see great potential in the app. So far it has got its initial hook right and personally my daily consumption on the app is significant compared to time spent on other matured platforms, which is a great sign as a user!

In terms of investment, definitely if I have the right moolah to invest or they open it up for their community. India and SEA definitely need its own social platform that's unbiased and transparent without the noise of LinkedIn or others.

In terms of business model, too early for the product to be monetized imo. Though with the data they have on organisations and roles, they can very well move into more realistic Glassdoor like components to make money, let companies make their own page to promote their culture over a period of time though that might defeat the platforms purpose, they are working on the job board which is similar to blind and could bring in revenue provided they build a clear moat against all other hiring solutions.

Some off the bat ideas for them to monetize, leverage the platform for organisations to capture their real time issues and feedback. They could also drive revenue from partnering with relevant services for members. Could bring in verified identifiable users who can provide mentoring or consultation services for members anonymously. Could evolve into a culture amp like business if they pivot deeper with the data . There are some other moonshot ideas I have but leaving that for time being now🌝

Reviews on Glassdoor seems to be manipulated by companies with fake reviews

That's true, but I believe a community validated review board could make a lot of difference. The problem with glassdoor is that it can be gamed because reviews are on way and cannot really be vetted

It might become a potential acquisition target for Blind after burning some insane cash. Other than that, I am not clear on the business model especially when a much larger global product exist in the same category. Those who want to understand, go and look for cash-burn by Koo.

ab to pakka ye grapevine ka banda hai.

Anyway, I think it's cool until it hasn't gained traction. If it explodes, there's not much difference between this and quora/Reddit.

@Doraemon said it right, if they stick to corporate, it'd be better.

Yes.. It surely has potential. But only if you keep it limited to IT and corporate. Otherwise it will become another Quora, lots of unrelated posts showing up in your feed and waste of time.

Idea and initial traction seems good but idk why the devs are so slow in adding features.
Its barely anything and can be done as a side hustle.

Grapevine is a free app. How do they run their startup?

Pardon me for being so naive here. I want to understand this new type of startup trend.

  1. What’s the source of motivation for their employees to stick to their jobs?
  2. How do apps like these think of monetizing? There is no ad, no paid...
