6 yoe now.
My department must've had some 50% placement back then.
One of my mate is still looking for a job and applying for all the govt competitive exams. IIT doesn't guarantee a rosy picture 🙂

There are many who go for higher education, UPSC preparation, CDS, etc. Does this 22% include them ?

Those 22% might be

  1. Started preparing for govt exams early but couldn’t get the job
  2. Never got placed so followed the step 1
  3. Most folks from Civil, Mechanical, Electrical etc branches found difficult to get the job in IT sector
