What holds you back?

This app has been my go to place lately. I can interact with fellow viners of my age or in the same age group so casually and in a candid way without hesitation. Put forth my thoughts and discuss anything literally. Irl it would have been difficult for me to become that expressive.

Also I have realized this lately that our generation is more mature, kind and understanding as I came across the posts and the comments on them made by fellow viners. People here are awesome and feels real good to be here.

We often hesitate to speak openly in public gatherings or anywhere we don't find known faces. So, just wanted to know what holds you back from being your true self or putting yourself out there so candidly irl as you are on grapevine.

One can never really be fully honest with everyone all the time. It can be used against you.

The trick is to know what to share with whom and when.

Yeah man, correct!.

Wise words, I'm always thinking about what not to share with whom cuz it'll backfire or have other consequences

Fear of being judged and called out that it shakes confidence.

I want to start YouTube but i fear being on screen

You can start without being on screen. You are just giving yourself an excuse not to start.

I would suggest not to start if you already have fear of being in screen, reverse engineering would not lead you much success without true passion.

Lack of opportunities to speak in public and fear of judgement.

GigglyQuokka

Yeah, we fear being judged.

Idk it's right or not but before we start doing something in public or speak in public we start judging ourselves like what people will think. It holds up from doing a lot of things.

U will not be judged… and sometimes it is like why to even start a conversation with anyone… instead watch some series or anime and be in that fictional world…

GigglyQuokka
GigglyQuokka

Yeah it can be a way of thinking if you have a mentality where you don't have much thoughts crossing your mind. For some people they need to vent their thoughts or those thoughts will become like those useless satellites that are just revolving in earth's orbit without any significance.

I want to share my story about how i overcame the fear of public speaking.

When I was in high school I was so bad at talking in English.( I joined a school in indore from a small town nearby where speaking in english was so rare.)

My whole 8th standard went with that, bullied because of that, laughed because of poor English, judged by my poor English and what not. But in the summer vacation I joined a public speaking coaching where they just pair up you with other students you just have to talk on any topic like anything. I did that for 2 months and boom I was able to speak in English fluently with anyone because i talked with more than 100 unknown faces.

In the 9th and 10th standard i participated in various public speaking events, debates and many more to pull me out of my comfort zone.

In college i started a YouTube channel and made 10-12 videos it gave me so much confidence.

I started recording my random things like doing coding, workout, playing frisbee etc it gave me so much confidence.

The things I want to tell through all this is that you have to just try for a few times and boom you will not hesitate to speak in public. If you think the situation will be awkward just use reverse psychology by saying that I am very new to public speaking I am nervous and all. It works, trust me.

Turn on videos during the meetings, talk to your tech friends over any topic by turning on the camera. It will bring you out of the cave of fear of public speaking.

Just try.

Love grapevine. This is the best community I have found to actually talk my heart out, it’s like grapevine and the people who are using grapevine have become my go-to people when it comes to sharing my life and career or anything.

I have been on grapevine for some months now and this is the best community building app I have ever seen I can talk my heart out and the people here actually come out to support and share their journey and experiences as well. Hats off ...
