Why still layoffs in MAANG?

Guys, i am in final year B.Tech, currently preparing for placements.

My Parents advice is to prepare for Govt Jobs. They are fearing about the layoffs, but my aim is to get job in anyone of the MAANG.

I just want to know why layoffs happening. Is it because of the over hiring or because of the poor performance of the employees.

Please share your experience in your company too.

My advice, don't specifically target MANGA. Instead, target a place where you'd find interesting problems to solve.

Trust a startup that is genuine and can take you places. MAANG was super small once upon a time. Never discount startups. If you genuinely trust the problem and the founder, it will go places.

Layoffs are for various reasons but high interest rates and lack of funding along with improvements in AI being a reason where more work is just being pushed through with ease. Also MAANG is just over bloated at this point of time so companies are just trimming the fat there.

It's a norm now. Companies will fire at the slightest issues with Financials or economy. Microsoft even fired people with a good result.
