I have a question regarding the bench policy in Wipro. How long can an employee be on the bench in Wipro? Please let me know whatever you know about their bench policy. Thanks in advance.
Wipro bench policy is generally for 45 days. Employees are put on loss of pay after the bench period is complete. According to the bench policy, employees are paid for 45 days, after which they go to loss of pay (LOP). If they complete their bench period, the employees are terminated. In these 45 days, the employees assigned to any project during this tenure they would go to an extended bench leave policy for 90 days. In Wipro, the bench policy is not applicable to freshers. The company can ask the WMG team to assign project leads to freshers. Wipro has also implemented a work-from-office policy where employees come to the office thrice a week.
I remember when I first joined Wipro, I was excited to dive into new projects and showcase my skills. However, like many others, I found myself on the bench for a few weeks after completing my initial training. During this time, I had a lot of questions about Wipro's bench policy. I reached out to colleagues and HR to better understand how long an employee could stay on the bench and what the company’s approach was.
In my experience, the Wipro bench policy allows employees to stay on the bench for varying durations, depending on project availability and your skill set. Typically, employees are on the bench for a few weeks to a couple of months. The company encourages employees to upskill or get involved in internal projects during this period. However, extra bench time may lead to reassignment or termination if no suitable project becomes available. Overall, Wipro’s bench policy is flexible, but long bench periods can feel uncertain.
What if employee is unbillable?
According to Wipro Bench Policy, the maximum duration that an employee may stay on bench period is three months. During this time, they are expected to look for new projects and enhance their skill sets by utilising some of the training programs. The Resource Management Group (RMG) helps in identifying appropriate projects; employees are also encouraged to search for projects within the organization.
The policy states that if an employee is unable to complete any contract within three months, there may be a loss of pay for that employee. A new bench period has been added at Wipro where one can be on the bench with insurance but without any salary. This policy seeks to help employees in searching for projects while at the same time controlling the costs to the organisation.
When I joined Wipro, I was excited but a little afraid that they might end up on the bench. After finishing my first project, I found myself waiting for the next assignment. I wondered how long I would be on the bench and what options were available during that time. I spoke to a few colleagues who had been through it, and they gave me some helpful information about the Wipro bench policy.
Wipro’s bench policy is generally flexible, but how long an employee stays on the bench depends on business needs and project demand. Employees may remain on the bench for a few weeks to several months. Wipro offers learning opportunities and internal roles while on the bench, helping employees stay productive. However, if no project aligns with your skills for an extended period, the risk of reassignment or even termination increases. It’s a good idea to use this time for upskilling or networking.
