Wipro fired 450 freshers on performance grounds, which is strange

Fresher annual Salary in India for Wipro is USD 4500 per year. Laying off 450 has no material impact

Freshers are anyway paid low -- as their first year is considered as investment by a company with clawback on training costs. Their performance is automatically considered as average, irrespective...
So firing freshers on performance grounds does not make any sense, except to send a message to middle management to shape up and to pay lip service to shareholders.
