Indian Startups

I turned down a job at a unicorn startup to stick with my stable corporate gig. Now they've IPO'd and I'm kicking myself. What 'playing it safe' decision do you regret the most?

Back in 2018, I had an offer from a fast-growing fintech startup. The salary was lower, the hours looked brutal, and the whole thing seemed risky. I chose to stay at my comfortable Big Tech job instead. Fast forward to now: that startup just went public, and early employees are instant millionaires. Meanwhile, I'm still grinding away at the same desk, wondering "what if?" Has anyone else passed up a high-risk, high-reward opportunity for security? How do you cope with the regret?

Rapido Becomes a Unicorn with Fresh $120M Funding

- Rapido, the bike-taxi startup, has reached a $1 billion valuation, becoming the latest Indian unicorn after securing $120 million in a Series E funding round led by WestBridge Capital. - The new funding highlights Rapido's growing influence in India's mobility sector, challenging the dominance of Uber and Ola, and aiding Swiggy in its competition against Zomato in the food delivery market. - Rapido's focus on two-wheeler transportation has allowed it to overcome challenges faced by traditional cab services, leveraging the widespread use of motorcycles and scooters in India's congested cities. - Swiggy, which led Rapido's previous funding round, has found a valuable delivery partner in Rapido, enhancing work opportunities for Rapido's drivers and planning to increase its stake post-IPO. - Rapido's latest funding round also saw participation from Khazanah, Malaysia’s sovereign wealth fund, marking it as the third Indian startup to achieve unicorn status this year, following Perfios and Krutrim. Leap Scholar failing to become an unicorn

LeapScholar who has raised a lot of funds in last 2 years, wanted to raise new round at 2.5B but the investors rejected the valuation as the revenue numbers are very less (Just 40- 50M). Funny part is that they told all the employees and everyone that they have already raised this funding, just have to do the Pr for it. No wonder, entire mid-management team at Leap has left and the upper management people left are so sub-par (look at their CoS(s)). Don’t even get me started on their founder.

FAANG & unicorn folks, what do you do with all that money?

The FAANG and unicorn employee salaries for even 2-7 YOE engineers is quite insane compared to the average Indian employee pay in other sectors of the economy. The average SDE2 at these companies makes 50+ lakhs per year in compensation (not “CTC” but real money) The average SDE3 makes 80+ lakhs which is frankly insane. What are you guys doing with all that money?

Hey fellows from product design! How does one transition from a mediocre company to a unicorn startup with a great culture and a great Pay?

I am a product designer with just 6 months of exp now in a product company. My pay her is 8LPA. And the worklife balance here sucks. I'm always working overtime. How do I join unicorn startups with great pay? Should I have to create impact in my current work and talk about it? Or do a personal project? And how much hike can I ask for?
