People are underestimating AI pace. Just yesterday, Meta released open sourced code llama which is better than chatgpt and github copilot

And remember, this is open sourced based in only 34 billion parameter.... People have no idea what they are going to witness in a year or two .... In 5 years, there will be no need of hiring most developers for insane salaries...

1) nobody is underestimating. 2) nobody knows when we will hit the diminishing returns curve of the current research cycle 3) more number of parameters does not mean better model performance

As per Ilya Sutskever ( chief scientist OpenAI), Darius Amodie (CEO, Anthropic) and Dennis Hasabbis ( CEO of Google Deep mind ), scaling will go on for much longer than people believe.........there is no shortage of synthetic data anymore.... In fact, meta didn't release their most powerful unnatural code llama model trained on synthetic code... With computing power law outpacing Moore's law, >99% corporate workers are definitely underestimating what is gonna arrive soon.

Crisis coming for White collar job

AI is unlike any other past technology revolution. It is going to make cost of intelligence trending toward zero. Going by exponential curve of AI growth, in next 3-4 years, we are going to have an AI model which can code better than 95% of coders... Deep mind already has model Alphacode which can code better than 50% of competitive coders. People are living in fool's paradise by thinking that AI will create massive amount of job.... It won't because it will make cost of intelligence near to zero making coding, analyst, consultant, product management job redundant.... What takes 100 coders to build a product won't take more 10 coders in few years from now...

Humans mind are not trained to understand exponential nature of any trend.... Currently people are mocking AI because current models are not that good. However people are unable to see the double exponential trend with which AI is improving without any slowing down of scaling laws...Ray Kurzweil was indeed right! Hence it would be more prudent to plan a career path not by keeping capabilities of current models of AI in mind but by understanding how capable AI models would become in 2-3 years.
