Should I look for funding for my AI startup ?

I'm thrilled to share our latest developments in our startup: We launched our prototype and it's gaining momentum! Our previous product, currently in stealth mode, has remarkable insights. However, the GPU usage costs have skyrocketed. Our new goal? To build an AI platform that serves as a cost-effective hub for training AI models. No one's tackling this issue, so we are the first ones to solve this issue. We already have some ties with the microchip manufacturer. Here's the thing: While we've been self-funded until now, we're now exploring seed funding. But there's a catch – we're cautious about accelerators and VCs. I have seen them undervalue my mate's company and prioritize quick revenue over steady growth. So how should we go about it ? I'll drop an example post for much clearer problem statement.

I have a remote job with 250k USD/2CR base salary and get to travel for free internationally 6 times a year to beautiful places in Europe. My manager is a saint and I don’t think I will ever find someone as good as him. I am considering leaving this job to startup. I would love to hear everyone’s unfiltered thoughts on this please 🙏🏼 Firstly, this is not a fake post - Luckily I have been one of the few people who were early in AI to train very large LMs, so I have an edge and get paid crazy money for it. Why am I leaving? Over the last one month I had time off from work to build a new AI capability for coding assistants. It’s a technological breakthrough and my AI is 10X cheaper and has 100% codebase coverage for automatic feature development, bug fixing and automating 3rd party integrations into your very large codebases. Others are working on it as well, but I have achieved higher results on public coding assistants benchmarks(SWE-bench). I believe in this breakthrough and technology, and this is the absolute right time to build it, not 6 months ago, not 6 months later - too early and too late. This could potentially be my next moonshot or I could also fail, but learn a lot in the process and not have regrets 5 years down the line in not pursuing a breakthrough in AI that someone down the line is going to monopolise. My financial situation is good and bad - I have NW of 3.2 Cr, but they are tied in 2 real estate properties - I am aware that this is stupid to not have anything liquid. I have a running home loan of 1Cr to the bank and 30 lakhs to be paid to my Dad, these two are my biggest mental blockers. My wife(married early this year) earns really well as well and I have some ~20L liquid, so day to day runway is of easily 1 year. Finally, I don’t believe that it I leave my current job, I will ever get another international offer that pays this well in cash and has remote work given how to market has changed recently. I am trying to disassociate from a greed mindset and looking into a potentially very high exponential growth/learnings. I'm working on a fintech B2C idea and need some advice. It's quite a complex idea, in a regulated industry (of course). I'm fairly good at developing apps (self taught web and mobile app dev) and currently working alone on this. I'm planning to use Flutter and GO to create the MVP. I'm experienced in Flutter but have no idea about GO. Currently working remotely (not enough savings to work on the idea full time). Need some suggestions on: 1. Should I learn GO or use ChatGPT or GitHub Copilot? 2. Since it's a fintech product (a highly regulated industry), how scrappy can I be regarding building and launching the MVP asap? 3. I've not worked in fintech, although I was a co-founder before (failed startup). Should I rather focus on building and launching the product by doing it all myself or take some time into looking for a co-founder? 4. I know that this is something that just cannot be bootstrapped (navigating in the grey areas of regulations, lobbying etc). Should I just put my head down and hustle it out till product launch or do I start looking to raise capital? Any angels or VCs that will actually fund an idea (especially in these times)? At Nexus(our startup), we're passionate about revolutionizing the way people invest in Stocks and crypto. But as any startup founder can attest, the path to success is often filled with obstacles. Recently, we encountered a significant roadblock in our quest for funding. A potential investor turned us down, citing that hit us hard: we didn't have a fully functioning MVP. Now, you might be wondering, what exactly our MVP was showing? Well it wasn't the flashy trading platform we dream of. Instead it considered a basic interface with stock prices displayed here and there. The cold reality is that users couldn't buy or sell any assets, nor could they access other advanced features. Why, you ask ? The answer lies in the complex regulatory landscape of the financial industry. To facilitate the trading functionality, a platform must obtain a SEBI license. This license requires rigorous compliance with financial regulations, and crucially proof of "financial backing". Investors won't understand that we need a significant amount of funding to take off. Without it, we'd be swimming in the shallow waters.

Been long since I wrote here. A casual post to discuss anything startup/VC related. Which startups are doing good, which ones not too good. Especially if you're a founder - how is the market feeling? My pov: despite the excess capital with VCs, funding is still very much dry. For a bit during the last year, there was a flurry of investments in SaaS and AI. Even that has dried up now. Slowest I have seen. Why: I think there's no push factor to invest, there's a lack of people starting up (vs. previous years). Awaiting some inflection point, so that things kickstart again.
