Things to lookout for in a company.

In your experience, what are some early signs that help detect incoming layoffs at a startup? It could be company-wide, team specific or in a particular function only.

I'm currently feeling insanely stuck in my current role, craving more challenging and fulfilling work. While I do get some tasks, they are not even worth using a few braincells. I am losing my sanity here and the pay is meh compared to the other good companies. What are some good companies to apply? Making this post cause market has been shifting insanely for past years and I am confused on current dynamic, for eg. been seeing a lot of LinkedIn dudes saying to avoid it with the recent layoffs and cut down of the benefits. Looking for some ok WLB, good benefits, better pay. Sorry for the vague question, did not know where else to go

How can we be layoff proof even companies like Citi , Barclays , google are firing people

I have heard a lot of people suggesting stay on a technical side ,coding side if you don’t want to be laid off and always have a market value . But now I see almost everyone is getting laid off !! What are your suggestions? Choose a career into coding or technical side only or go into other roles like technical functional ,product owner etc.

Hey, I've been working as a Frontend Developer at a startup in Hyderabad for the past 2.3 years and I've also worked on backend projects unfortunately, over the past year management hasn't been able to secure new projects on Monday my 4 colleagues had 1 on 1 discussions with HR and were given a month to find new jobs. If they can't they will be terminated in 2nd month I'm currently on a project but with less amount of work—should I be worried? It seems like they plan to terminate 4-5 employees every month.

I used to work in a start up in Bangalore, they overhired in 2022 and overpaid the freshers, more than the experienced engineers were getting paid. To fix this put 30% of workforce on pip, laid off 20% I was one of them. 2 months later, they did open layoffs, did it again in 2 months, and one of my friends there heard the founders cracking a laugh that even the investors wouldn't have expected us to do this so fast. I joined another company, they lost the client I was hired for, and few more clients, I was told they will have to do layoffs and my name is in the list. So they asked me to resign and I refused by saying we'll consider a last working day, if I get an offer I'll resign otherwise anyway I'll have to be laid off and they agreed. This happened one month after I had joined this company ( also a startup ). So, being laid off once was already a big enough punch of reality, with an education loan on my head. I joined another company and got laid off again. Tough shit. I ended up getting an offer before my lwd. I am not from any IIT, I am not an exceptional engineer. I am very bad interviews, my resume usually doesn't get shortlisted. Sheer volume of effort I put made the impact on me getting a job. Right now I am the best job of my career, with a better management. Trying to say, it's a tough time. But you'll get through it.

From the last few days there were talks going on about layoffs in Morgan Stanley. Some 7% of the global staff will be handed over the pink slip in this week. Well... It started happening from today ... Few colleagues from my department were laid, and the reason being "company is trying to survive in the market, company is planning the road ahead by taking such bold steps". When this was announced, my anxiety shot up the next level and I couldn't wait for the meeting to finish. The past few years have not been great for the business worldwide due to which many companies are forced to take such steps. These companies just have been doing a hiring spree from the last 1-2 years that now they are regretting their decisions and letting off their employees. My question is - "If a company hires excessively during the bull market and is forced to lay off few of the employees during the downturn, has the company made an error by not evaluating the headcount or it was just simply the need of the hour" Please note - I know many people out there who have faced job cuts due to many factors, sincerely requesting people to take this matter very seriously

I interned at a fintech unicorn as a PM Intern in my 3rd year and wasn't able to get a return offer because of hiring freeze. I joined a relatively stable MNC as an analyst thru campus but don't really enjoy the job and there's no intellectual stimulation as well. Doing work here feels like a chore whereas I really enjoyed working at the unicorn. Now, the previous company had reached out to me and offering me a position. How should I proceed, really scared of layoffs as I have an education loan.
