Asked to resign. What are all options do I have?
Happened to me a couple of months back. Employee was forcing me to resign but I strongly responded over email disagreeing with their claims, as they were baseless. As a result, they agreed to pay severance instead of notice and further they were asking to serve 3 weeks more but I got out in a week.
Con to this, they have deliberately tampered my experience letter but I have sufficient proofs and cross references to say that it was just out of vindictiveness but yeah, have to do extra explaining.

Tempered experience letter means... Can you explain as I am in similar situation.
So they have deliberately mentioned “his performance was average during the tenure” in the experience letter and this is unusual for someone to do unless there is some serious conflict/conduct issues. In my case, I did not have fight or anything during exit process rather had strongly written responses and clarification wherever needed.

Don’t resign, let them fire you. So you could also claim tax benefits

Too less info can you share more??
Such as background, experience, company, why have you been asked to leave ?etc
But mostly you should start looking out for other opportunities
Updated the info in separate comment.
Do I have option to decline to resign? What's the most harm can they do?
They serve a notice of termination. After the notice period is over, they will Not pay the salary and may not let you inside the premises of the office.
You should see whats the notice period the company will give.
In many companies, the termination notice period is month but the resignation notice period is 3 months(like in my case - its a large pvt sector bank)
So resigning will effectively give you more time and a honourable exit.
I think if the company has decided to lay you off, mostly you won’t have any other option to go.
You can try switching to other posts where the engineers are being retained, if you have relevant skills. But usually its a very rare case especially if the company is huge.
So you should definitely start applying.
The company is listed unicorn. They are saying it is happening due to restructuring & cost cutting and my position is redundant.
I have around 4.5 yoe. I work as senior frontend engineer.

This is Paytm
Resign if they are offering severance as It is a common practice in the industry. If they are not giving any money then don't resign. Say directly I need severance.
This is it usually looks like:
1. Notice period pay
2. Privileged leave base salary
3. Annual bonus
4. Ex gratita
5. Salary of current month
