"Years of Experience" mean nothing in Engineering
I know many oldies who should be fired immediately. Forget tech, they are not even able to manage teams properly. Even so called "Seniors/Leads" don't know how to be one, if you question them, somehow it hurts their ego and you need to follow/respect them because they were born earlier ? Tech should be limited to max till 12 years of work experience only, rest should transition into some other career, start your own startup or business or something but don't be an employee in a big company.

It means nothing in other roles too, if you have the skills + can showcase the effects - age is just a number then

There are People who just want to be in tech even in their 40s. I don't think it's fair to put a number on who should be in tech and when
Someday you’ll also fall behind and will have to continue career as ur risk appetite is low. Maybe you’ll make genuine effort to match ur skill level to age but somewhere you will have a thought “Is this really worth spending my remaining life over?” Your body starts falling behind, responsibilities are never ending, life shows u many things… Anyway, you’ll get some answers as u age

I have always believed that it is not the number of years of experience, but the number of situations faced and handled in those years that count.
Try working for 2 years in a 0-1 setup or spending 2 years in the hypergrowth stage of a startup and you'll know a lot more than someone working for 5+ years in a large org.
With all due respect, I disagree with the limit of 40 years. What do you think the world would look like if Richard Stallman, Linus Torvalds, Guido van Rossum, Leslie Lamport, and others stopped working in tech after 40? You've likely had a few poor experiences with leaders above 40. But that doesn't warrant a generalization that all leaders above 40 are incompetent.
