What to do?

I get around 54k every month in my account and I save close to 25k every month. I’m a fresher 2023 passout working as a SDE - Backend. My friends always wants me to go out with them every weekend to play badminton or to just chill. This costs me around Rs500-1000 every week. The thing is I don’t like going out plus I’ll be saving extra 2500Rs. Also, I’m focused on increasing my CTC currently. How to ditch them every weekend? Or should I just stop being friends with them? PS: I strongly believe in earning more and saving more, plus I like to keep my lifestyle inflation to the lowest.

Spending 2k on activities like badminton every month is worth the investment. If you said the same thing about drinking and going clubbing I'd probably say ditch it since saving this money matters to you a lot. Save 23k per month, you're on the right track. Don't lose friends right now it's a lot harder to make friends later.

I already hit the gym 5x times a week. Badminton is just a way to catchup with them. If I could convince them to meet biweekly Ig that’ll be better. PS: also saving those extra 2k will make my monthly saving 27k. Really confused what to optimise for friends or savings.

The 2k will hopefully be a good investment right now. It's important to save even 100 rupees but not when it's at the cost of minimum social viability. Consider this the bare minimum you will need to spend through your life on maintaining your social life.

Don't ditch good friends over money. They can be invaluable in life even when you don't have any.

It's just me but I would rather play badminton with friends than spend money going to the gym. I started my career getting 24k a month and could save half my salary in 2015, yet I never skimped on travelling or sports.

Spending 2K versus time to bond with friends! The winner - friends. You'll save multifold in years to come, but you'll not be able to make new friends or even carve out time to spend with them.

If you don't enjoy it or wanna spend less, reduce your frequency. See how it goes. Find another hobby, socialise elsewhere. This ain't a personal finance thing Sir. Everyone from UKG till their 50s face time management choices. Prioritise your options and experiment to find what works. Again, this ain't about money!

Be honest and say that you can't make it every week due to money + studying, they shouldn't mind. Reach out to them whenever you want to go. Don't "stop being friends with them" lol.

Hey, try to buy the cult pass play. It’s economical at 1300 per month for a year, if you consistently go for badminton

Don't skimp on friends so early on if you don't like badminton, per se ask them try bowling, box cricket etc etc. saving extra 2k at the cost of probable aloneness isn't sensible tradeoff. I also started with 33k monthly, used to catch up with friends weekly now some are in usa, some in blr, few got married, the catchup with friends is naturally reduced to annual or biannual event, and the group of friends I couldn't meet just after college have drifted soo far haven't talked to one in over 3years. People have their own timelines and we're bound to get alone so embrace the togetherness while it's viable, One case If your 24k extra saved annually 10x it could be spent in a day on party.
