Due to financial situation and sudden layoff, I had to join in some company for 25Lpa to support my family, my previous is 37.5Lpa

Looking forward to some nice stories from the community. Some positive, some not so positive - what made you take a pay cut?

I am a 25 yr old male and I come from a very small town in Jharkhand. My dad was a mechanic. I am their only son. I graduated from a tier 3 college where getting any job was a dream. I worked hard and cleared a 9 LPA job in Pune. Got promoted and got hikes and came to around 13 LPA in around a year’s time. Resigned it for Amazon, BLR at 30 LPA. I joined in Oct 22 and got laid off in Jan 23. When I cleared Amazon, it was moment of pride for me and my parents. For the first time everything looked well and life felt happy and promising. It was just perfect. After the layoff, life has been full of struggle. It was so difficult to get a job. Somehow got a decent company who would at least hire me without reducing my pay, but had to deal with a pathetic manager, and the culture wasn’t too good. Joined here for ~34 LPA I finished 1 year in this company this April and I started to interview. Started with a startup, they said they can’t offer that much. Next was MSFT. They took 8 ROUNDS for a SE2 role and they offered me a L60 role and won’t budge at all, for a lower comp. I had to reject. In the meantime, I had already cleared Intuit at 50 LPA and DE Shaw at around 60 LPA. DE Shaw HM told me this role is SDET which the recruiter didn’t mention. Had to reject there. I resigned after I cleared Intuit and expected MSFT to give me an offer and I was sure that whatever comp they’ll offer I’ll take, but didn’t expect them to give me L60 and a comp around 29 LPA. When Intuit’s joining came close I considered taking my resignation back but my manger bullied me and didn’t take my resignation back. I got a chance to interview with Apple. It was so close to Intuit’s joining date that I asked Intuit to push it by 3 weeks. After 5 rounds, Apple said they can’t go ahead with my profile because of less experience. Folks trust me: All my interviews at MSFT and Apple went very very well. When I made up my mind to join Intuit, they announced lay offs. My only option is to join.

Hey everyone, I hope you guys are doing awesome. Here is a small intro, I graduated with IT degree in 2022. Same year I was fortunate enough to crack Google Summer of Code. The next year I appear as a GSoC mentor. After that I took a project from my organization on contract basis. I've been contributing to opensource for about 2.5 years now and I hold a decent position in my org. Things were not great money wise so I was hunting for a fultime job, after 3 months of continue hustle my resume got shortlisted and I got selected. We initially agreed upon 14 LPA but when offer letter arrived I was offered 7 LPA. I was desperate and was in need of money due to family problems. I truly think I deserve more, within 3 months I have become release manager and I handle the release. I was able to understand the code base and started contributing. I am involved in few tasks and I am able to deliver things. One thing I must say is that, people are very very supportive. All of them helps me out at every point of time. My personal growth is just going great. Money is the factor that I think is nagging me. I would love to hear your thoughts. I appreciate every opinion you guys have. Thanks

I am hearing that some companies are laying off again? So is this a good time to switch or just stay wherever I am. That being said, I am not happy with my CTC and looking for a hike. And my current CTC is ~26 so how much hike can I expect if I do a switch?

Recently got an opportunity with Groww as SDE-2, how's the job security? Don't really want to leave family and move to Bangalore. Also pay difference wouldn't really matter due to onsite expenses.

I'm a 30Yo with 7years in the same industry however at only 6LPA. For someone with this much experience i surely deserve more hence i started looking out for opportunities and got a 9LPA offer. When I put down my papers the current company has promised appraisal but are not confirming how much will I get and when will it start from. And now I'm stuck because the new offer is running out and my current company is simply binding time. I'm really clueless and ffs i really need to start making good decisions. #Salary

I am working in a MNC and currently in a billable project but no work. I am pretty good in programming and development. With an experience of 7months in total I am confused about should I try to switch to other companies and if yes what should be my plans for it. Currently as I have 0 work in the project i am working to enhance my technical skills like DSA and frontend technologies. As my pay is quite less (6.5Lpa ~48k in-hand) I want to increase it to atleast 15Lpa

I am a Software Engineer in a company in Hyderabad location. My package is 5lpa. I have hectic and monotonous work life. I am actually not South Indian and have felt harsh racism here. People usually don't talk to me because I don't know Telugu. It has been 2 months now in Hyderabad and I am homesick. My expenses and loans are really high, so I am struggling financially also. I have no friends here and it's affecting my mental health. Can anyone suggest me how to make my situation better?

I come from a good college (tier 2) with very good placements but because of mental health reasons ( I was severely struggling) i had to skip placements. After being unemployed for 4 months after graduation my family forced me into taking a job I never wanted. Very low pay, extremely toxic work culture and insane work hours. I don't even have energy or time left to prepare for interviews or even apply to other jobs. This job is slowly pushing me back into depression. And it even hurts to see that all my friends are earning 17+LPA base + stocks and other benefits, while I can't even get a 15CTC job. I feel my career is over and see no hopes for my future. Should I quit so I can atleast prepare for a better job? Any advice is appreciated.
