Have you ever taken a pay cut for a job? Share your reasons 💵

Has anybody taken shifted from a well paid high demanding job to a less demanding job taking a salary cut for getting job satisfaction and work life balance? Would want to know how do you landed up such a job and hows it going so far?

A popular thread here on grapevine had some amazing stories on salary hikes. This thread is for the stories of people who let go of higher pay because of some reason. Did you ever let go off higher pay offers than your current pay? Reasons could be anything (comfortable current role, better role somewhere else, took bet on a startup, location constraints, gut feelings, felt higher pay would come with higher pressure, etc.) How did your decision pan out? Would you say you did the right thing?

Are there folks on the vine who have experienced previous down cycles? Financial crisis of 08-09 or the funding winter in 16-17? What would you suggest someone who has been laid off on how to navigate career trajectories given the uncertainities ahead. Many folks would have planned their career paths but due to the change in situations all of this has gone for a toss. Should people settle for lower pays or lower designations? How does it impact the trajectory ahead Other folks who have read about this or discussed this with others do pour in your thoughts

Biz role Is it worth taking a pay cut and join PhonePe ? I have heard culture and people are good at PhonePe but at what price ?

Got hints that I’ll be fired I presented them with an option of taking a lower level position The next lower level options top band was 40 percent less than my current pay I took the demotion given the market and personal circumstances. If I search for opportunities outside I would have to ask for 60 percent hike I guess, my salary is corrected forever 😪

I have been managing teams for multiple organisations for quite a few years. It saddens me to see most of the organisations trying to exploit employees by paying inadequate compensation. Gender pay gap exists for real. I want to file a PIL and maybe get a law passed to ensure all employees are paid fairly. I have 2 options, either to take a 40% pay cut or leave the company (get laid off), what should I do? Would taking that high pay cut will lead to negative impact for my next employer? How does companies/hr takes this while hiring?

I have been one of the lucky ones to have made a switch to a new company just before the layoff season began. I had multiple offers at the time, but ultimately chose one where I was getting to build something from scratch in a large organization at my current designation and was also getting a good hike (20%). The offers I dropped had a better title with a team to manage. However, the options were to either take a pay cut to join a Series A company or a large organization with a known bad work culture. Off late, I'm feeling a little frustrated with the new job. I feel like I won't get chance to move to a better title for atleast a year. Since the recession period has kicked in, the new team needs to show results in order to get a promotion and the targets are quite steep for that. There is some learning that I have while building this product and that is definitely a motivation, but also feel I'm missed out an opportunity to move to next level in career. On one hand, I feel like I should have taken the pay cut to join the series A startup. On the other hand, I also feel that I should be happy that I'm getting comfortably more pay at a time where folks are having poor appraisals, pay cuts or even getting laid off. Given a choice between title and money what would you choose?
