Education Inflation is skyrocketing in India in the absence of quality Govt schools

I was talking to a colleague at office and got shocked to hear that he is paying around 5 lakhs per annum for his 4 year old kid who just goes to a play school. Looks like there has been major inflation in education and I've been out of touch of this. I remember even top private schools having max monthly fees around 5k some 10 years back. Folks with kids in Bangalore, how are you managing your child's education and how much do you spend on it? Are there any cheap alternatives like KV/govt schools? Also, with education getting so expensive it would definitely act as a deterrent for couples to have kids !

One of my team member said that he is paying ~2L per year as the fees for his child who's in 4th standard now, in Bengaluru. It's a CBSE school and is based out of Bengaluru. He pays additional for uniform, books, transport, etc. They also kind of want a well educated mom, but she shouldn't be working as there needs to be someone to take care of the children all the time. Although I studied in an private engineering college (but one of the best in the state), it costed only around ~2,50,000 for everything across 4 years (2021 grad) What the hell are they teaching over there? 💁🏻‍♂️ He also shared a few instances where parents are paying almost 6-10 lakhs for class 11 & 12 (coaching oriented). And then, of some who are paying ~25 Lakhs for B.Tech admission. I don't know where the world is going 🤯 I would like to understand the opinions of those who are reading this.

Been in Bangalore for 6+ years and love everything the city has given me. This city ( more like people here) taught me what software engineering and product sense is, how to entrepreneurs function, whats a 100X coder like. Made many memories, weekend trips to nearby places were so nice. Dated, moved in and then married my girlfriend, adopted a dog. So Bangalore has given me a lot. But in hindsight it takes a way a lot also - 1. Everybody is in constant work mode, even in parties its just about who is doing what 2. Everybody is in loot mode here - i have seen locals pay less for veggies/fruits in front of me, then the veggies apparently have lead in them 3. Rents/builders/brokers/roads - we all know whats up with them Though it was nice initially, now i feel like even after earning so much ( ctc > 1cr) if i just spend it all here ( monthly expenses ~2lacs same is with all my married friends), what is the point even. Hence making a move to slow life now, where you get a house with garden for 25k and fresh veggies and you can actually develop some relationship with community. This urge to always outperform in career is not really needed, we all eventually work towards savings and hence if i earn less but spend even lesser, its more or less the same thing for me. But i dont want to live in a matchbox, travel 1 hour to meet a friend, eat a roti for 150bucks and be in constant anxiety about climbing the ladder. All i want is to focus on health, and sit in a garden in some sunshine with my wife and my dog and enjoy a cup of tea. So yes, I AM DONE. Moving to a tier 2 ( more like tier 2.5 town ) Happy to answer any questions if anybody has any.

For the past year, I've been living in a tier 1 city, specifically Mumbai and Bangalore. In my social circle, I've noticed that, on average, graduates earn around 40,000 rupees per month, while post-graduates earn around 60,000 rupees per month. However, living in these cities costs a minimum of 15,000 rupees per month for a single person. On the other hand, I've observed that local or migrant people from states like Assam, UP, WB, Bihar, and Odisha, who have only completed 10th grade, are earning an average of 50,000 rupees per month. They work in various roles such as salon services, AC repair, bathroom cleaning, painting, and massage. Even individuals working as Uber drivers, Rapido riders, Swiggy delivery partners, or in similar jobs can earn around 40,000 rupees per month. PS:- I am not jealous of people earning much despite less education, i respect their hardwork. Maybe our education system / society needs to focus more on life skills and treat every job with equality. Coming from a conservative village where education is highly respected and valued, I feel confused. It seems that money is the most important factor in today's world, despite the emphasis placed on education. Money 💰 is everything 🚶.

I’ve been working as a SWE for GE in Bangalore for nearly two years. First of all the WLB and culture here is incredible. I honestly can’t believe how great the WLB is over here, I work maybe 20 hours a week on average and am rarely ever stressed about anything. They’re not strict about WFO so I can chill at home most of the time. No fixed timings and I also get a ton of leaves. There’s no micromanagement and the culture is chill and professional. Perks are about average for any large MNC. We have a beautiful company campus with plenty of car parking space for everyone. Obviously your mileage may vary depending on the your team, it’s possible I just got lucky. The only con is that the pay is shit. Fresher SWEs are paid around 12 LPA while seniors might earn around 30. Not possible to earn 60+ unless you’re in a leadership position.
