School fees in Bangalore

I was talking to a colleague at office and got shocked to hear that he is paying around 5 lakhs per annum for his 4 year old kid who just goes to a play school. Looks like there has been major inflation in education and I've been out of touch of this. I remember even top private schools having max monthly fees around 5k some 10 years back. Folks with kids in Bangalore, how are you managing your child's education and how much do you spend on it? Are there any cheap alternatives like KV/govt schools? Also, with education getting so expensive it would definitely act as a deterrent for couples to have kids !

I studied in Dehradun and except few schools we don’t have that expensive schools . Also Dehradun is a valley not on a hill top 😭

5 lac way too high, might be some international school. Generally fees range in 1.2 lacs to 2.5 lacs.

Lmaoo i studied in ICSE for 12 years in 5l . Thank god i dont wanna have children . Yikers.. Ps: school doesn’t make children smart anymore. Extra curricular activities and parents attitude at home help most or maybe thats what i wish i had.

Alternate solution: Go abroad to the U.S., UK etc where taxes are still high but the education is free, good public infra etc.

I think you'll have schools of all types. 5L is way too much and could be charged by some International school. The norm usually ranges between 80k to 2L per year depending on the school. I pay around 1.7 for my 4 year old's school. The fees are usually dependant on various factors like curriculum and even the areas.

Don't expect these high-priced schools to provide a better education for your child. Go for convents or trust Vidyalaya or usual CBSE schools like DAV/DPS, which are under your budget, and save something for kids extracurricular activities that kids have an interest in. With these high-fee schools, you will always feel cheated by the value you get for the kind of money you are paying them.

From what I know these play schools and primary schools teach a great deal to the kids, from swimming to art to music to different kinds of sports all with good infrastructure and good individual supervision. How they are taught these extra curricular stuff is a far sight from how we were taught in our time apparently and that makes the parents justify the costs. Also from 8th they shift their kids to schools that focus on studies, where fees are also considerably less.

Humongous school fees 🤯

One of my team member said that he is paying ~2L per year as the fees for his child who's in 4th standard now, in Bengaluru. It's a CBSE school and is based out of Bengaluru. He pays additional for uniform, books, transport, etc. They also kind of want a well educated mom, but she shouldn't be working as there needs to be someone to take care of the children all the time. Although I studied in an private engineering college (but one of the best in the state), it costed only around ~2,50,000 for everything across 4 years (2021 grad) What the hell are they teaching over there? 💁🏻‍♂️ He also shared a few instances where parents are paying almost 6-10 lakhs for class 11 & 12 (coaching oriented). And then, of some who are paying ~25 Lakhs for B.Tech admission. I don't know where the world is going 🤯 I would like to understand the opinions of those who are reading this.
