Product based Vs Service based companies

Have worked in both. One of the significant difference was how people in tech based roles are treated. In product based companies, tech bandwidth is one of the most important thing that product teams must work on optimising, with utmost importance given to building things only after the Product Team runs a MVP based experiment etc etc(all things you see these bhaiyaa, didis and influencers talking about) In Service based companies, tech roles, especially coders(~80%) are considered corporate mazdoor. These are the types of companies that cause people to hate their professions. Additionally you are replaceable, because there are 1000 people on the bench ready to replace you in an hour. Although there are cons to PB and Pros to SB as well, this has been the major difference that I saw. Do remember that most service companies are profitable, so there are lesser chances of you getting laid off, compared to product based companies or startups.

Working in product-based and service-based companies gives you different experiences. Product-based companies make things like software or consumer goods that they sell. Service-based companies offer services like consulting or customer support. Product-based companies earn money by selling products, while service-based companies earn money by providing services. In product-based companies, you focus on improving and making new products. In service-based companies, you focus on delivering good services to clients. Product-based companies interact with customers when they sell products, while service-based companies interact with customers regularly to understand and meet their needs. In product-based companies, you might work on designing, making, and selling products. In service-based companies, you might work on engaging with clients, delivering services, and managing relationships. Both types of companies have their own challenges and rewards.

Being worked at both, In my experience product based companies are way better in terms of quality of work, pay, freedom and growth. In service based work was easy and slow with useless hierarchy who takes too much time to reply. In product based, accountability is more and agile where you can plan your day with flexibility. Adding some numbers: My friends in service based get standard 5-10% salary increments every year while I have incremented 300% in 2 years(in same company)

Something to note here is a lot of these product companies aren't making profits. They're paying people well, but it's mostly funding based. If this bubble ever bursts, god help us
