Please don’t do an MBA for the sake of doing one
Lots of M7 MBA folks I know of are having ‘Stealth’ on their LinkedIn since they haven’t found a role yet and don’t want to show a gap - it’s brutal out there
@DaringTrain made a similar observation yesterday on a thread and was swarmed by people idolizing MBA. Things seem rosy from outside, but may not be for many MANY people

First of all M7 is operating in a different job market of US as compared to India.
Secondly, your own company Microsoft has come to campus (IIM C) and hired a lot of folks in India, while firing people in US.
Indian job market is way better >>>>

most people in India do MBA to furnish thier resume and get a better job. As long the economy is grwoing , this is the best way. The problem starts when the economy slows down.
Youtube is filled with videos showing the pathetic conditions of Chinese graduates from top university.

Will comment on this as a CA and a recent IIMA grad . As a CA , I really found very minimal value add in MBA curriculum. I could manage to be in top 10 percent of my class with minimal CP’s and minimal studies . So that tells a lot about of level of the curriculum today.
Further MBA doesn’t teach any hard skills. Today markets value skills above anything else. Very few of my non Fin batchmates remember how to properly read a balance sheet and even after completing MBA from IIMA
Of course everyone is placed but it’s high time MBA as a degree needs to reinvent itself . MBA today has become a placement agency disguised as an educational degree
Have said it before and will say it again... B.ed, MBA and BA are most useless degrees.....
Exactly, also I don’t know why then CEOs, CFOs, CMO, CPOs, startup founders have MBA.

Imagine spending all that money on an MBA just to end up in 'stealth' mode. Maybe it's time to get real about what these programs actually deliver.
A M7 MBA in the long run ~10yrs would still add way more value than a regular degree for most people.
I mean sure you can succeed in life without giving any fucks about any degree but having a Harvard/Wharton MBA on your CV wouldn't hurt.
The quality also matters. I interviewed 3 fresh MDI graduates who were not able to tell me 7Ps. I mean really? How bloody stupid can you guys be?
Each one of them was 98+ %ile, had interned with big names like RB, AP and was unplaced post end of course.
MBA entrance needs to change else we’ll see a newspaper clip with headline- “90% Indian graduates and POST GRADS both are unemployable”
Yo I remember there were 4Ps in marketing. Did they increase it to sound smarter?

There are only 4Ps in Marketing. The rest is BS added by consultants to sound smarter.

I think MBAs should be cheaper tbh. Then it would actually make sense to do one, because the upside potential is still higher compared to non MBA career trajectory.
Unless you become an entrepreneur directly, MBA mostly helps as long as it is affordable for the person.

I actually did startup without an MBA and i would say i learnt more than MBA could teach me. But i still might go for an MBA later , or a masters at the least. Makes job hunting easier.
I never had a problem with jobs before covid, even used to get inbound interviews without effort. But after covid it was hard to find good jobs in a super competitive market. That's why I went all in on my then side gig, now main gig.

If mba would have been cheaper, it would be a great deal.
Why should someone loose 2 years of earning and take a huge loan to pay the institute?
Hopefully things change in future 🙂

Interesting observation.
Have been kinda comtemplating about doing one for myself too.
4 YoE now. A PM. Also, bad bugged by the thrill of starting a company. Can't happen to decide which one to hit first, startup or MBA? Because in any case, if I decide to do the other one later, it will be late.

If anyone wants to spoil the team or worst the culture then recruit a single MBA. They have the mouth not the brain and intellect.

Classic causation correlation problem.
Those M7 grads are not jobless "because" they have done their MBAs from those elite institutions.
They're jobless "despite" it.
The job market is much much much worse for people who don't have these fancy signals and networks to rely on.
It's not like they're better off than the M7 grads 🤣
Maybe short run financial obligation wise yes, but medium term the M7 grads are definitely much better off.

@Investor3823 Duuuude,
You have such a fun profile. I am curious, What prompted you to do an MBA (at your stage) and then make a switch to Consulting?
Also, given your experience, would you recommend someone with a (similar) bright corporate future ahead of them to pause it all and prepare for civil services?
Bro, civil servents are paid so less. After 5yr post mba, avg yearly salary of mba grad is lifetime saving of ias/ ips. Heck i dont even have mba degree and even i will make more than the lifetime saving of most current ias / ips officers in 2 yrs.

I think it’s more to do with right roles. Market is a flux and candidates have not seen the right opportunity that fit them. It’s strange.
@GullibleOil
"50 Lakh loan + LPU MBA"
Now, I can totally understand why you are so angry and hate MBA.
But please understand root cause of problem. Also MBA gives great returns in very long term especially senior/leadership roles.

IIM C may be good. But, you are not IIM C. You are "from" IIM C. There's a difference. Esprit de corps much?

@WaterTension his comment was "Repeat after me.. MBA is for losers". Current post and his "observations" are pole opposites 😅.
I 100% agree that MBA is highly over priced. And that companies in US are hiring MBAs with already some domain experience. It's not like one day you are a school teacher and after MBA you are landing Strategy Consultant offers. Ideally that is the dream 😐. But damnn... Companies and their "preferences" 🤬

It's fascinating.

It’s true for most of the courses (except may be healthcare or tourism as they are seeing pent up demand still)
- don’t cherry pick.
