I really don't want to go to team building activities

Disclaimer: Probably a rant. Let me give you some context. I am an ambivert, I don't like interacting with new people. I have been working from home since the pandemic. Last day I, along with 20 other people was asked if they can come together on a weekend to celebrate the 1 year anniversary of a project(who does that) that I too was working on One guy said he is busy and might not come. The organizer started to plead with him to go to the event, on the call, a conference call. And since I don't like the attention I didn't say I won't be going to that event either. I understand from an organizer point of view, you have to show the maximum amount of people. But consider this, it's a freaking weekend. It should be a time to unwind from work and find some comfort of their own liking. Thank you for attending my Ted Rant. Have a nice day

Team building activities should definitely be done on working days and most preferably within working hours.

Aty company it's always done on weekends. Stopped going to it after my second year of corporate life. They don't even count me anymore for such activities.

I understand the point but in most companies have a section for interpersonal skills as part of the year end review. People who aren't participating in team or organisation events are considered as not a team player and it ends up impacting the rating and increments. At my employer they expect us to take part in some shity events like debate, dance or song competition just like CCA in schools and that is counted as team player or leader ship skills.. If you don't participate apparently your rating and increments would be less. 😐

I hate it too. One of the reasons I started my own company. The other was reporting to people who are obviously stupid. Kam paisa rahe theek hai, ye sab joker waala kaam nahi karna.

I did that too. I was laughed at. I was "advised" how to enjoy the company funded trip to star hotels. Which we would normally won't go.

From what I see, team building activities are just a way to burn the budget and mostly look like some program to legally show that the employees are having fun. Everyone knows its a corporate event but have to force the smiles and laughs. It's such a weird concept but hey.. Play the game I guess

I'll say if you have the budget to host an event or some shitty team lunch or outing.. Give us hikes instead ;_; Mujhe tho ye pizza samosa party bhi nhi chahiye. But hearing people, managers around the office it's obvious that they get some budget and part of it is allocated to do shit like this. I don't know if it's the remnants of the old corporate culture or if there's some hidden reason for it.

Idiotic to force someone to come to a team building event..if some is unwilling to come there can be 1 of 2 reasons 1. Individual is unwell 2. Individual is not interested. Organiser should get a clue and move on. Hate the feudal mindset of some of these managers (rant end)

I am happy that my team activity is happening on a weekday that too a Thursday and during working hours, the team has to directly come to the venue and can skip work for the day. Pretty sensible folks in my team

Team building activities should be done on weekdays, when they're actually paying us to be teams. I never go out for company outing or activities if it's on a weekend.
