Moving to Chennai. Néed some thoughts

After thinking for long.. Almost decided that I can move to Chennai. Child's education and Family support for elderly, comparatively less expensive are the pros. But on the con side, I see lesser career options for an MBA grad. But in the end I feel I can manage with lesser choices as pros seem to outweigh cons. Any advice and inputs

As a Tamilian with an MBA and a kiddo in tow, I've noticed that finding "front office" gigs in Chennai can be tough. Most of the jobs here are back-end because the big company HQs aren't around. It's more about the tech and support scenes, so not much face time with customers. Finding a decent job during my MBA days was a bit of a struggle, and honestly, if you're aiming high career-wise, Chennai might not be where to be, unless you're into SaaS or manufacturing. But, let's be real—Chennai's got its charm. It's easily one of the most livable metros, trailing just behind Hyderabad and maybe Pune, especially when you consider education and healthcare (just make sure you've got good insurance because hospitals here can be pricey). Chennai's not perfect. It's pretty packed, the water situation is really bad, and there's Tamil pride. Plus, you'd probably want a car to get around since autos and cabbies are undependable thugs. And if you're all about the nightlife, Chennai might not be your jam. Personal issues aside, Chennai's got a special place in my heart. It might not be everyone's cup of tea, but it's got its perks.

Thank you for your reply. I agree with most of thing you mentioned. Yes indeed finding roles for MBA in Chennai seems to be tough. Like there aren't much options unlike bangalore.

I am currently in e comm analytics. 10 YoE. Pay Scale 30 LPA +. I will be in same org for a while and later when I want to look for opportunities, I see there aren't much options in business analytics / business Intelligence related roles. That's my concern. Plus pay might be lesser

North Indian in Chennai, option to move to Noida, should one take it?

I have been in a rewarding career in Chennai for about a decade. Came in as a fresher but now married and have 2 kids. Have an option to move to Noida now. Given cultural differences, elder kid now finds it difficult to adjust at school. Elderly parents dont find the weather and neighbors friendly enough to live with me for more than a month. Why is Chennai not a preferred job location?

I have recently moved to Chennai and feel that city is very underrated. It has much better infrastructure as compared to other major cities. Also, lesser traffic. Language issue is much overhyped.

What are the pros of moving to Bengaluru(24M)?

Hello boys, gals and all other pals! I am switching jobs rn and I have offers from a European auto anc in Bengaluru and one in Chennai. Ceteris paribus, I wanted to know how much of a difference does being in Bengaluru make interms of future job opportunities Are there a lot of walk-in interviews for companies based out of there, job fairs etc? Is there a subconscious or otherwise preference for candidates already based out of Bengaluru? Also, how is Bengaluru in general for a 24M, single, introvert whose daily non-work activities include going to the gym, reading boatloads of stuff and watching sports? Which offer should I go with?

25M, CSM role I have offers from 2 companies. Both are companies I admire and have managed them as a CSM in my current company and have excellent relationships. I’ve interviewed for both and the pay is what I expected however which one should I go with? Company A- 100% remote Company B- I admire this a bit more. When I asked for making an exception to let me do remote the founder said if I can move to Chennai for 6 months to get in sync with product/team and then go remote we can move forward. I have notions about moving to Chennai. If it was remote I would blindly select B. Confused right now which one to go with. I have some borrowed and some experienced notions about Chennai + I moved to BLR just in April 2024

Help me plan my options

I make 50k now @chennai, got a Bangalore offer for 13LPA, got another one here for 10.5LPA. I need to pay 40k for my home, but I don't pay rent here. While I really want to move to Bangalore, I'm wondering if 13LPA is enough for my monthly 40k + rent + food + other day to day stuff. I know it's vague but I'm just want to know if I can or should I keep pushing for an higher package I'm new here, lmk of there a grapevine post "tax"
