Craze of engineering

The economy went down? Yes. Did it affect all kinds of companies? Yes Did the banks fire any one? No Did the Railways fire anyone? No Did the media agencies fire anyone? No Did Large Tech companies and IT fire people? Absolutely yes Tech is the most ruthless-stupid sector that is so flimsy and short sighted that it doesn't care jack-shit about employees Tech companies will pay employees large salaries in a heartbeat, they'll hire 1000s of them and then fire 100s of them in a heartbeat destroying careers. Sigh!

Context: I am a software engineer with 4 years of experience. Everytime I work with a bunch of engineers (Especially Indian Startups). Most of them are workaholics. They are just working for some company full-time. They are interested in learning more about technology, making jokes about technology, following technology news, etc. That is it. No social life. (Especially after Covid). No skills in any other part of life. Their comfort zone is so small that they have developed a lifestyle of working, sleeping & watching something on laptops and that's it. They make an excellent salary but don't do anything else. Every time I meet a 35-40-year-old software engineer, it is just a physically unfit guy with an arranged marriage who is boring as a brick.

What is the reason for this? Lack of pay, Lack of cutting edge research?

Why do educated graduates are paid the same as a sweeper of railway ? Why do service based company do this , do they think freshers are as worthy as a sweeper ? This is a genuine question, most of the service based companies earn in billions why they choose to pay shit to a hard working student who just got a job ? This is so unfair. I feel they are just taking advantage of them.

This year arround more than 14 lakhs appeared for Jee out of these only 17-18 thousand will get IITS and remaining top 30 thousand students will join Nits/IIITs/Bits and state GECs but remaining students will join random engineering,competition is increased pretty much and I'm pretty sure had the half of these 14 lakhs student be from well off families, they would look for options abroad, competition is getting extremely unhealthy nowadays bczz even students who are gonna get chemical , mechanical, civil kind of branches in top tier colleges are also gonna target product/analytics/consulting/finance kind of roles or go for MBA via cat at top IIMs/abroad /UPSC /starting up at the end of their engineering which doesn't make any sense to me . It doesn't mean that students who got less percentile are less intelligent but mistakes of 5-8 marks in these exams affect your rank by 1000s . And this thing is gonna worse in near future with ever increasing population of our country

Being an investor in equity markets, i was aware of the fact that US market will crash as the free money by fed draws back. I obviously was not able to link this up with the funding dry-ness. I still expect a founder to be aware of these economic events. I am curious how could the management decide to go for hiring employees only to lay them off a year later. If you are a founder, would be happy to know the other side of the story.
