A rant: Things have become way too expensive

Went to dinner at a restaurant in my home town. The prices have almost 1.5x’d over last 6 months.

Was flooded with ads about restaurants with Sufi nights and what not, so I'd thought I'd ask one about their rates, and damn, at these prices they better give me a gold souvenir when I leave

Me and my spouse in total are earning 6 Lakh a month pre-tax, but inspite of that there is too much pressure on finances. I am just amazed with the cost of living. Rents, School fees, EMIs, Taxes are just eating away all the income. I am barely left with 1 lakh at end of month. This saving is not enough for any emergency. Recently my family faced with medical emergency and I am still recovering with the debt it created. Company covered health insurance denied the claim on certain grounds and we were f**c***. It looks so pretty from outside, but honestly I am frustrated even with this package in hand. Is anyone else feeling the pressure, or I am just bad at managing finances?

I'm a 28-year-old married (Wife is also working) individual currently residing in Kolkata, where the living expenses are relatively low. I have 5 years of work experience, and my current compensation package is 28 lakhs fixed and 3 lakhs variable (approximately 1.95 lakhs in-hand salary after deductions). With no liabilities or responsibilities, my monthly expenses are around 40,000 INR, and I manage to invest around 1.5 lakhs per month. Currently, I enjoy a stable job and live with my parents, who take care of most of my living expenses. However, I'm considering the possibility of switching jobs and moving to another city, which would require me to bear the additional costs of rent, food, and other living expenses on my own. Question: Given my current financial situation and the potential for increased living costs in a new city, should I explore a job switch and relocation? Or should I continue with my current stable job and living arrangement in Kolkata, where my expenses are minimal? What factors should I consider when making this decision?

And the income is not increasing at the same rate

I'm From Mumbai, For 2 weeks I have been traveling to Bangalore. I check the booze prices are 3 times its MRP.

Seeing a lots of discussion about people complaining about inflated salary, it's quite sad to see such discussions. Take SWE for example, so an swe is expected to move to an expensive city with high travel and food expenses, scant housing options with landlords hiking the price 40-80%, work 8 hrs a day and sometimes even 12. And if he's drawing 20-30LPA he's considered overpaid?! Not to mention the guy has to pay a huge chunk to the government and we're not americans who don't care about their family and have to take care of them as well. We're all overworked and underpaid (if you consider the amount of hrs one work and how much they are paidpaid in abroad) and considering the situation still underpaid. There may be people who might be drawing a high salary and barely do any work (considering they take a lot of leaves and don't put time and effort in work) but that should be the discussion of the inadequate framework for calculating better metrics for productivity and how companies fail to do their due diligence, instead of complaining about high salary. This affects us all and if we all think that salaries are inflated it only hurts us more.

Came to Bangalore to join an in-office role, the org and role is good. But coming from Gurgaon, I was not able to like the city. Some cons: - Extremely poor infrastructure like a tier 2 city - Every govt official is corrupt, police can harass you anywhere - You neither feel homely nor is there any vibe of a cosmopolitan city. Local politics will not let this city become a cosmopolitan startup hub. Gurgaon is so so much better. - Everyone just wants to loot money, everything is expensive. Rent is high, landlord deducting 1 month extra rent, unnecessarily high security amount, cook and maid everything is so effin’ expensive - Alcohol is expensive. - Good food is expensive The value of money is lesser here as compared to the rest of the country. I have a flight tonight and I am so happy that it’s a one way flight. I don’t mean to offend anyone, but bangalore can be very lonely and it has been so for many of my friends. Particularly ease of life is much higher in NCR and that’s why a lot of people move back. Those who feel otherwise haven’t lived in NCR so Bangalore is more of just a bubble for them. Adios!
