 I don't have overarching goals in life since life changes too fast for you to be sure of achieving said goals.  
  
 What you can actually decide is what kind of person you want to be. Do you want to leave a good legacy behind? 
  
 That's how you actually find what you need to do in your life, with your life, and how is something you'll find along the way.

Hey All, I am writing this to express how I am feeling since last 1 year now. This post will be a bit lengthy but I would be grateful if anyone could help me even a bit. 
I moved into a new company 1year back and due to bad work environment I left. I took a months break and joined a new company now. I have a total 5 years of work experience, my salary is extremely good. ( I don’t worry about this at all for now)

My problem is I don’t know what to do in my life. I guess I have quarter life crisis. 

Earlier I wanted to do music and act , I took professional classes and left because I felt bored idk why. I felt like I need someone to guide me and handhold me since I know no one in this industry. 
Talking about my job I have always moved into roles I loved every bit of work and I m very sincere and hardworking. 
I stopped working out , I stopped cycling, I stopped painting.
I stopped liking everything literally. Idk how to get back at things. I feel I am gonna die anyway why I need to do this , or that or etc etc. I even took counselling but it did not seem yo help me. 

Idk what to do. Please share your experiences too and what I need to do.

I have very few hard skills and am not sure where to start. Still, I'm seduced by other lucrative jobs/profiles such as finance, PM, consulting, which feel inaccessible at this point. I've accepted that there's nothing I can do to change the past, but I'm seeking guidance on how to shape my career from this point forward. I can't seem to relate to much of the non-FAANG junta out there. I mean I have a cushy job with probably 0.1% pay of all SWEs(pretty much like all of us do). But these cookie-cutter roles have been taking a mental toll on me. Like I am getting paid but I feel a little purpose-less. What am I gunning for in this life? 

All my life I wanted to go to a good college to get into a good company. In college I wanted to get a good codeforces rank so that I could get into FAANG. Now that I am in FAANG I have nothing to look forward to. 

Any of you all feeling this way? Because I don't see myself offer-shopping and feeling much happy about that either.

Need advice from millennials

At young age you should focus only on 2 things, career and money.  
  
 Career: Try to learn as much as possible in whatever you do. Take initiative and show enthusiasm for anything new. Anyone can code, but people who take initiative and has the ability to learn new things quickly are the one who make it big. Build a good relationship with your colleagues. Your network is your networth.  
  
 Try to get as much clarity in life as possible. Talk to seniors, learn about their journey, why they made certain decisions. Trust me having clarity in life as to what you wanna do in life is a cheatcode.  
  
 Money: No matter how much you make, you can always save money. Invest that money into index funds. Investing early on in life will put you years ahead of your friends. Compounding is real. Here's a simple rule you can follow: 50:20:30. Spend 50% on basic needs, 20% on your wants and invest the rest 30%.  
  
 Don't buy expensive things just to show off. Literally no one cares.

My current salary is 42LPA. I am from IIT, have 7 years of experience and work in product. Honestly, my value in the market is higher than what I’m being paid but I am very demotivated to optimise for that. When I do see less deserving people minting more money, I feel that I am doing injustice to myself and playing the wrong hand.

More and more though, the thought of earning more money chokes me a bit. I have dreams of building something of my own - that gives me control to build something my way and freedom to live my life as per my terms. But the mindset of “zyada paisa pareshaani hai” doesn’t leave me.

My family also is not dependent on me and whatever is needed from my side, I actively contribute to. I also lack any motivation to focus on my investments and see my money grow. I just have money sitting around in my bank account purely for nothing

I also look at my lifestyle choices from time to time and go into existential debate of why we need the things that we do. This has come to a point where I really do not understand my relationship with money and why we earn and spend it. 

For me at this point, it’s just a show for the world. There’s very little that you need, and really no limit to what you want to show. And I just don’t see a point in it anymore.

I am demotivated to work to earn more money

 I get the trouble you face. When you’ve almost figured out what you like and what you don’t like (that money isn’t thaaat needle moving, I have basic needs) but at the same time, the opportunity cost of relaxing is too high - everybody from your batch will remind you of how far you can go, and the middle class boy in you will find it difficult to stomach letting go of all the money, even though you can make it  
  
 Went through this at one point. I have ultimately sided with money. I cannot sit back and relax. Money will only unlock a lot of foreign travel and good lifestyle for me. But more than that, I am lucky to be in a position that allows me to earn money easier than other people do. So I’ll make it, help extended family and people who cannot earn as easily, because at least in a country like India, it’s almost a responsibility. We’re not fucking Europe. 
  
 I’ll just not kill myself for it as much as I used to :)

We all saw the recent post of FAANG employee earning a lot but not happy. I am sure that must be the case with so many of us. Why do we still talk about money? Speaking for myself, I can say, more money doesn't bring happiness as much as having fun with friends does!

Is there anyone here who has explored lot of things in life and then decided on what they love and want to do? You didn't take the job because it pays you well but because it's fun for you?

Why are majority of the posts about salary/money?

I have done MBA from 7 years of work ex and switched into product management later. I have been struggling for the last 3 years with switching jobs every year post MBA.
 I am not able to find any anchor or goal. Further, wfh doesn't help either 😭😭. I was planning to connect with people who empathize with my situation, any guidance or help.

I have been working in MNC for 1.5 years now and most people who joined with me are switching to different companies. I have plans to go for higher studies so not focussing so much on switching. Not sure whether I am doing the correct thing or not. 
People in my company are like "Bro tum kab jayega aur kitna din idhar".

Disclaimer: I have nothing against high earners in this group who are doing exceptionally well and earning big bucks at young age. You have my admiration. 

Target audience of this post: Everyone else who is doing okay in their job, earning an average salary for their age. 

Why have I posted it?: To not feel I am the only one who is a normal regular person doing just average in his life in this hyper competitive rat race. 

My thoughts: I clearly remember the moment, it was April 2007, I had barely completed the board exams of class 10th and joined class 11th. It was my first week into class 11th when a fine looking gentleman walked into our class to make us think of our future career path. He was from a coaching institute for IIT JEE and AIEEE. He told us about all the high salary packages at these premier institutes. I excitedly told my parents about it. 

Like any middle class parents, they dreamt of their son cracking the exam and securing good placements from IITs/NITs. They enrolled me in coaching. I worked hard for those 2 years, 11th and 12th. But what was harder was the constant stress and pressure I was put in, both intentionally and unintentionally. These ideas that 'I must crack JEE to have a good future', 'if you don't get through JEE then you are a waste' etc, were hammered into my mind day in and day out. 

I didn't crack JEE but got into a well reputed private engineering college of India.. Fast forward 4 years, did my MBA from  tier 2 college only to join a service company at salary that would be considered too low for most of the folks here who compare salary like a plague. Recently joined a product company with good jump. Realised all that pressure I was put under in high school wasn't necessary. I am doing ok in life. 

 I think it's okay to be earning an average salary, everyone of us is on his own journey of growth and comparing ourselves on basis of packages seems myopic
