Feeling depressed at Amazon(2YOE/41L CTC). Anyone else feeling the same way?
I can't seem to relate to much of the non-FAANG junta out there. I mean I have a cushy job with probably 0.1% pay of all SWEs(pretty much like all of us do). But these cookie-cutter roles have been taking a mental toll on me. Like I am getting paid but I feel a little purpose-less. What am I gunning for in this life?
All my life I wanted to go to a good college to get into a good company. In college I wanted to get a good codeforces rank so that I could get into FAANG. Now that I am in FAANG I have nothing to look forward to.
Any of you all feeling this way? Because I don't see myself offer-shopping and feeling much happy about that either.
Recently watched Soul on hotstar and this actually makes sense now. The character was trying hard to perform in front of a crowd and when it happened he wasn't feeling any change at all. At that time, he was told about the fish and the ocean story :-
I heard this story about a fish.
He swims up to an older fish and says, “I’m trying to find this thing they call ‘the ocean.'”
“The ocean? the older fish says, “That’s what you’re in right now.”
“This?” says the young fish. “This is water. What I want is the ocean!”
This is so deep.
Can you explain? I don't get it
Merko Dede Bhai job apni :)
That is insensitive at minimum and disgraceful at large.
I understand 😊 it's alright. If I were at the higher rung on Maslows hierarchy I might've felt similarly. However, I don't understand how that is insensitive or disgraceful. He could ask for a more meaningful project or work or make a lateral or vertical move. If he's completely sick of his job he could invest with a start up and exit. But either ways, what he's saying is like, dude I'm dating a model rn and I'm sick of the pasta she makes everyday, that's all she knows. Idk maybe it's a bad metaphor. Hope you understand
@primeIITian You are saying this because you have now all what you once wanted. God forbid, for once think what if you lose all this. The moment you will think this you will understand your purpose in life. :)
Both of my parents are dead. Worst case scenario I will die too without money and my wife will get my term life insurance.
@PrimeIITian that is what. You have a secured future. No issues of earning a living. That is why you have lost all purpose in life while most of us are running behind money because we lack it. That is why for most of us the life purpose is to
- Earn a decent living for us and our families.
- Secure future of our kids.
- Help others in our own little ways.
If you feel purpose less, I would recommend you to -
- Help others in reaching their professional goals.
- Sponsor education of atleast one kid and support them.
- Sponsor medical expenses of someone who is in need.
- Visit slums sometimes and donate things to kids you will feel happy to their happy faces.
When we money can't give us happiness anymore, that means you are now ready to serve others. :) :)
