I don't know if I'm overthinking or not, but I need a sanity check.

A couple of months ago, our department underwent a huge change. Our department at 400+ people and close to ~25 of those were working in US and UK. 

We had layoffs in may. A month prior to that, those 25 people were shifted to some other department with no changes in their roles despite us being told that our roles were pretty much obsolete and we'll be shifted and trained to take up other similarly structured roles. 

It's just crazy because there were no layoffs only for those people but almost every other department in all countries had some people laid off. 

This question of mine wasn't answered when I asked in our leadership office hours. 

It's crazy because usually Indians are cheaper right? It was not like those 25 people were generating a crazy impact that other Indians weren't.

Anyway, a lot of us like me are now stuck in a different role and are being trained for something that would provide absolutely NO VALUE once we are out of this organisation. 

Have no motivation left and conspiring is what I do to spend my time during those trainings as I don't see them providing value at all.

 But one interesting thing I have observed is that many organizations are now deliberately making the work environment more pressurised and/or toxic to reduce the headcount so that they don't need to layoff people.

Crazy numbers! Didn't know it was happening in large numbers

Layoffs in the west in Jan 2024

Just wanted to give some updates now that it has been 1 month since the last post

1) Senior Leadership from Tech (3) , a senior director from Product , Finance Head have all resigned. Strategy team has been dissolved. 
2) There are more people in the pipeline and will get more clarity by month end.
3) Everyone over the CTC of 60 lakh has been asked about the revenue that they bring in and based on that, their position is being reconsidered.
4) All contract workers have been terminated. Interns have been told that they won't be receiving PPOs.
5) Senior Management Has been asked to take 20% paycuts. 
6) Even at Junior level, people have been asked to take pay cuts or resign.
7) Lots of tools used in tech are being removed and AWS subscription has also been revised.


Meanwhile HRs have been celebrating on slack channels that Yubi has been ranked in Top 25 companies for career development :/
