He himself keep on changing company in Evey 2 years. And he is not a good person why I'm saying this because he keeps on shaming his father habits in front of team whenever we have casual gatherings. Like who does that.

So I’ve been working as a Backend Software Engineer. Recently, my manager left the company and I’ve been assigned a new manager. Not to boast but I’m decent at my job and able to find better solutions than my peers, my old manager ignited this passion for problem solving in me. This new manager is really toxic he pass comments on my colleagues (Same level as me) you have short term memory loss, badam khaya kro and shit! He’s always chasing girls in office. There is one girl in my team he acts like a different person in front of her (although she treats him really bad because she thinks he’s a creep). So a few days back, I was working on something with some other manager who knew the context to the problem (there is an internal npm package my company has which only few developers have contributed to, I recently made my contribution to that package) and this new manager has never made any contribution to that package so he started telling the other manager that this guy(Says my name) is very slow and the other managers defends me instantly saying he’s the fastest in the team. I’m really pissed tho.

I want to do something about this guy. He has been doing such things for past month and always tells the sob story of how much he has struggled in life.

Need suggestions on how to tackle this?

PS: I’ve asked my parents if I can resign they are fine with it but I don’t want to resign in this bad market without an offer

I'm working as an APM at a startup for about a year now. I work with another guy who happens to be my senior, PM and both of us report to the director.

Of late, my senior, i.e., the PM has been undermining my work when the two of us are working together, subtly taunting me that what I've done is pretty easy and non impactful business wise. He also disregards the decisions made by me, modifies the PRDs discovered and written by me and mails them as his own.

Eventually, he ends up adding me to the walkthrough calls because I had discovered the features but then concludes everything such that he had owned everything end to end.

Recently, both of us were given a documentation to be done by our manager, i.e., the director. I had completed almost 70% of that document, but in our call with the director he presented it saying that he had written that document and I had made a few changes to it.

This undermines my work and visibility of my capabilities. I don't know how to tackle this situation, my manager is usually busy and leaves it upto this PM to allocate work, which he unfairly uses.

How do I talk to my manager about this. I'm fairly new to corporate, just graduated last year and don't know how to handle all this.

But this thing has been bothering me lately, really looking forward to any advise my fellow grapeviners may have.

I thought I was the only one frustrated with meetings until my colleagues also mentioned they were not able to get work done because most of the day was spent on meetings

Plus our boss (CEO) loves talking, anyway the meetings are agenda-less. He stretches 30 min calls to 2 hours and then has the audacity to question the productivity.

Cannot tell me this, he gets very touchy when feedback is negative for him. And then writes sarcastic messages.
Also, who wants to take up fights with person who pays your salary

What to do in this case? I'm tired of working 12 hours each day

Too many meetings, and our boss is one yapper

1. Try sending invites with an agenda 
 2. Drop off the call and leave a message that you gotta attend another meeting or you're working on something that's a priority or any personal reasons  
 3. After every meeting send an MOM 
 4. Do everything for you to escape any meaningless meetings except telling your boss. That's the safest option. 
  
 If there's one thing that TCS taught me...it is to PRETEND like every manager is nice and always right. If not you'll definitely lose your mind.

Got Piped and laid off by my toxic manager giving bullshit reason. The manager was giving random excuses when i asked in details. Anyways toxic people will do toxic things only. On the top of that phonepe was giving PIP to reduce experienced people and was hiring junior engineers to reduce costs.

Finally got a job after few months of efforts. Not that great but I am feeling great to get out of that toxicity. I am feeling better since I left phonepe. When I call my friends back at phonepe, I see them casually mentioning there is too much work I will do on weekend, will sit at night. That's how overworking in normalized. I was also doing the same before and didn't think twice how much I am working.

I Will keep on preparing and would not leave my future in hands of my future or any manager from now on.

Though it’s great you got rid-off toxic manager, I would suggest you to reflect back if there were any short comings on your side. If not, it can become a chapter for you to identify toxicity early. If yes, learn from mistake and never to repeat it again. Sometimes, we miss the opportunity to learn from experiences.

Ever since I have come back this week from Diwali break, it feels like I made a fucking mistake going back home and taking multiple days off last week.

My manager is intentionally putting too much on my plate, while other peers are just chilling and laughing at me.
Now, he is saying that we're running late on timelines because of me and I am a disgrace. He is laughingly mentioning to me that he will fire me.

I have a history of clinical depression and bipolar disorder, this is triggering me a lot and I can't sleep really well at night. I feel like ending it all and leaving this company for good. I have savings worth 12 months of living expense.

Is anyone else facing similar issues after coming back from Diwali?

In the recent performance review, shitty manager gave bad review.  Though worked very hard the last whole year. Brought this to skips  notice, but he's not ready to hear what I have to say, just speaks what  manager has to say ( probably not to hamper his relationship with the  manager). This manager is very careless and has no idea what's going on  in the team.. Other colleagues who did less than equal to work as mine  got better rating than me due to their manager being good.   

Lost all hope and motivation to work. What should I do?? If I quit  now the market conditions are too bad. Did not learn anything much in  this shit company..

There are managers who are paid close to a Crore Rupees a year for doing this.

Reality: I don’t care about the ongoing meeting. My “passive” attendance in some other meeting is more important than the ongoing meeting.

Reality: I’m not capable of questioning the leadership team. I’m just passing the buck to you.

Reality: I want to show a rosy picture to my leaders. I will ‘use’ you to impress my leaders.

Reality: I’ll judge employees who don’t volunteer.

Reality: I want to save my ass in this job.

Reality: As if I’m capable of resolving them…lol

What to do if your manger is incompetent??

I recently started a new job. I would like to share some of the experiences I have had with my manager. I am wondering if these are red flags or if I am maybe being paranoid or thinking too much.

It was quite difficult for me to get into this company and this job. The company is quite great and I was quite excited but some of the experiences I have had with my immediate manager have made me a bit apprehensive.
I would like to share them and hear opinions about it.

Here are some things which have happened which I have not liked so far - 

1. I speak to a Senior Engineer one day and next day my manager asks me if anyone asked me to speak to him. 
2. I shared an insight about a new tool which we can use on a deployment pipeline on the overall pod (under my skip manager). My manager immediately called me and started asking my status update and replied 'Discussing 1-1' in the group to prevent anyone getting visibility of the idea. 
3. My manager pings me whenever I go offline and recently he asked me in a passive aggressive way, 'Please monitor your Teams status. It was away for most of today.' I now feel kind of paranoid to never get up as I feel my Teams status is being monitored.

Is my manager too much of a micromanaging red flag ? I started a new job and my manager monitors my Teams online status.

Yes this is straight up micromanagement and insecurity. 
  
 Just stand up to him man. The more of such things you allow him to do, the more courage he will get and more he will fuck your life.  
  
 Just stand your ground for a few times and he'll understand that you are not the guy he can do this to.

Is it a good time to fight your manager or go against his/her decision in terms of the job market. Is there any other solution?

Today, I received a warning email from the HR stating my performance is slow and they are going to decide on my employment.

I have joined this company very recently, as SDE 2. They are expecting me to complete a 30 day task within 10 days. I got excited and took it. I have been working my ass off, beyond the clock to achieve it. Most of it was new to me, since i don't have professional experience on this particular stack. It took me 6 days to achieve stability and structure of the application. Literally I haven't been sleeping a bit.

Now after 10 days they just shared this email. I really wanted to let this out.

Feeling shitty about performance feedback

Performance appraisal is just a yearly reminder that the employment is at their mercy. Beyond that it's has no meaning full value.  
 As a rule of thumb, one must always crib and complain at their jobs. If it takes 30days , one must say 50 days. If they ask us to complete in 10 days we must cry in front of them and shown tham that we are suffering. That's the only way to survive. Have you seen any ceo come on TV and say "life is good we are going to make a ton of money" no they always say " tough times ahead, recession time" , "perform or perish".. all the usual BS. We should follow our leaders.

I'm not sure who needs to hear this, but I’m briefly sharing my experience! I have around 3YOE in software development. Previously, I worked at a large product-based company, where everything was fine except for the salary and hikes, which didn't meet my expectations. So, I decided to switch jobs and ended up at a consulting start-up-like firm with a small product development team (about 15 people inc myself), receiving a decent 50% raise. This is my first job switch. The working style between the two companies is significantly different (5 days WFO, only formal attire, 10 hr working as the norm, etc.). I've noticed a few odd things.

->It’s my third month in this company, and I admit I’m a bit of a slow performer. It’s taking me time to understand their applications, pick up the pace, and get up to speed. My assigned tasks are falling behind deadlines, while my co-workers are able to complete theirs on time. I acknowledge this, and I’m working on improving and catching up.

->In meetings and scrum calls, I’m getting yelled at when my tasks don't progress. If I hit a roadblock and ask my manager or the lead for help, instead of getting the support I need, I’m hit with questions like, "We've implemented the same feature in other applications without any issues—why are you the only one facing these doubts or blockers?" or "If xyz (a colleague who joined with me but has less experience) is getting their tasks done, why are you the only one struggling with these doubts or blockers?"

->Frequent UI-UX changes and sudden shifts in implementation, whenever they feel like it, are quite confusing for me and result in a lot of rework. However, these ad-hoc changes are never acknowledged, and the effort spent on reworking isn't captured anywhere. When I mention that I've worked on these changes, they respond by questioning why I need time for them, as if my code will magically handle everything on its own,apne ap hojayega!

-> I am questioning my abilities after coming to this team, whether I am the right fit or not. Very harsh comments are passed right in front of my face: Other team mates say to me that "You are Lucky in this team! This much leverage the management has never given to me or others, they are baring you even if your tasks are not moving ahead!", In 1-on-1 my manager is saying ki "I don't know, this much leverage and patience we have never shown to anyone"(its hardly 2.5m after joining), "I don't know what to say, other team mates are asking me(to my manager) if he(ie me) can do lesser work ,we are performing way higher why do you have problems with us! This creates problems in teams". He further added "Comparison shouldn't be made, but xyz is also newly joined but he picked up, but I don't have confidence in you to give any task and feel you will accomplish it!"

->When I ask my co-workers casual questions or try to have a small interaction, their responses are things like, "Oh, do we really have to explain all this?" or "What do you want this time? Why are you eating my head?" It's a small team of 14-15 people, and they all sit together and go for coffee or lunch, but no one includes me or talks to me. I know this isn't directly related to work, and it shouldn't matter, but I just wanted to express how uncomfortable the air is around me.

-> Even though xyz’s work has several bugs and coding standard mismatches, it’s brushed off as normal. But when it comes to my work, it’s heavily scrutinized. My manager even created a group with a tester where, every day, I have to update what feature I implemented and log the hours I spent on it. The tester then immediately tests it and flags bugs on the same day. This testing happens alongside my development, even before my code is pushed to production. It feels like my manager has completely lost trust in me, and now, every hour of my work is under a microscope.

Some of you might be managers—how do you handle folks in their first few months of joining? How do you handle someone who performs slow? I’m constantly improving, and compared to previous sprints, my tasks are getting better, but before I can even take a breath, I’m hit with these comments that make me feel dumb. The phrases I’ve included in quotes are actual words I hear daily, and I've only mentioned a few of them. Is this how corporate life works? Is it normal to be treated like this, or should I feel privileged that I haven't been fired yet? Should I be setting boundaries when it comes to receiving such intense criticism? I’m not sure what to do. No matter how much I push myself to improve, it feels like they expect me to perform at 200kph, and I just can’t keep up. I feel completely inadequate and dumb.

For a few months, I am being targeted by manager. A few peers are also helping him doing this. Kind of forcing me to leave the job.
This has impacted me alot. I stopped going to gym, started eating 24 hrs. Always thinking about the beautiful time spent with everyone in team.

Mine is so toxic, Has a very sad life though he is married and has one year old baby, jealous to next level,No boundaries! 
My manager is the most stupidest person I have ever come across in my life. Good managers are leaders on whom you can fall back to when you fuck up! 
Mine is so toxic that he only wants to take credit of best things done in the organization and everything otherwise he would just put on me. Keep on assigning tasks at odd hours, will msg why is this not done that not done! 
He has even tried silent treatment with me, as if that would work 😂
I mean he would try to show me that he is so pissed off with me because I choose not to attend his calls in off office hours, or maybe when i choose not to respond to his bullshit. 
Keeps getting deep into the arses of management. Would be first one to attend any parties and also the last one to leave the vicinity. 
Sometimes I feel so pissed off when I see people like him not been held responsible for a toxic culture at the workplace and how simply they just get away in a day by putting everythibg else on others. 
Being on a leadership designation, he is still so much insecure that he would leave no stone unturned to keep me out of the meetings where any achievements or good stuff is being discussed 🤦🏼‍♀️
