I am originally from a small town and did my BSc in Computer Science. My relatives and neighbours used to say that I am a good for nothing freeloader who is a "nikamma" - unemployed. It was very hard to find a job back then and I used to have deep anxiety about it. My only dream was to get my fathers appreciation. He is my biggest hero. 

So I started preparing very hard and practiced my skills. The only one who supported me was my mother who used to give me tea even at 3 in the morning while I used to study. Even my own father gave up on me and from time to time he used to say that if you are living under my roof then you have to follow my rules. He also used to say that look at the neighbour's ladka who got a government job and he asked me to prepare for Bank PO.

So I moved out from my town and shifted to Gurgaon where I got a small PG with some money that my mother had given me. I also started freelancing on Fiverr and which led me to improve my communication skills. Finally, when I got my Google offer letter I felt like I made it. It was the best response to all the taunts by people around me. 

I suddenly became a superstar in my town with people congratulating my parents. I bought my mother gold bangles and dad a new watch with my first salary. I was looking at my offer letter today and it reminded me of all the hardwork I did to achieve this moment.

This is the story of my life. In case anyone needs help. I am ready to provide support to aspirants here as a way to give back.

You know the best part? It is just Saturday. We still have half weekend to go 🙌

In childhood, I used to fancy a lot about business cards. The titles, fancy contacts, emails, websites used to amaze me. I observe that person's outer lifestyle, how they speak and behave. The professional smile they carry on - I started practicing in front of the mirror since then, used to do a lot of imaginary handshakes, and greetings when no one is around, in the home or many a times, while bathing.
I used to check the business cards my father had on the desk, curiously, I used to ask about their titles and what they do. He also said business cards shouldn't be thrown away once the work is done, there's some value to a card that will be understood later.
Even after I stepped into college, he said when people offer their cards, it shouldn't be thrown away even when there is no business to deal. We should still respect the other person.

After I started working, I saw my L2's business card and I was exclaimed and I should be getting that title sometime in the future. He told me to apply for the business card, I was nervous as I was a fresher, by then.

Few weeks later I got hands on my 1st business card. Oh God! that feeling was damn high with teary eyes. Took a deep breath, read my name, it sounded dashing.
I first gave it to my dad, he was very proud and kept it in his wallet. Mom kissed the card. Went to my grandparents home, handed it to my grandfather, his eyes and the feeling he had that moment - he was damn proud of me!

In the beginning, I used to handover my card after the meetings with a single hand, in a western style. Then I was taught the proper way of issuing:-
When we meet someone, be it a meeting or a first-timer, after the firm handshake, we should give our business card with both the hands and then get to discuss about the business or the meeting, mostly Indian way.

With QR codes, websites, LinkedIn around, culture of business cards shouldn't die.

My father worked as a peon when I was a kid. I barely had any friends and could not afford any toys. He used to work really long hours everyday. He was sleeping when I went to school and I was sleeping when he got back from work. So we never really talked. I was not good at studies during school, later I got to know that I had severe ADHD. My teachers used to say that I am good for nothing and very talkative all my life which gave me a lot of anxiety.

I got into a CSE at a Tier 2 college. This was with the help of my cousin sister who used to tutor me after school and taught me how to think from fundamentals. 

In college my seniors used to do a lot of ragging and make us not have food in the hostel mess. I lost a lot of weight and ended up with jaundice. This was the reason why I had a very bad CGPA in first year, <6. Slowly over the years I was able to bring it over 7.

I got into a service based company after college with a CTC of 3.75 LPA. I did not have any offers and I did not have anyone for guidance in my life. That is when I started to pick up some freelancing gigs and talked to people from other countries and cultures which educated me about top tech companies. So I started preparing for that.

I was rejected a total of 4 times by Amazon which completely broke me from the inside. Meanwhile my father got stomach cancer and he passed away. To this day my deepest regret is that my father did not see me finally achieving success in my life and till his last moments I am sure he thought of me as a failure son.

As I moved through my career I made a goal of reaching Google. I prepared very hard for an entire year with a lot of studying and preparation. Finally I got into Google. My family became very happy for me as I was the first person in my entire extended family to get such a package. After a lifetime of struggle I was finally content with where I am.

My only wish is that my father was here and his struggle for providing me with the best was not wasted.

Lately, walking in the garden and watching birds chirp in the morning has become an underrated thing that I find deep happiness in.

Your first Salary!!

I’m a very private person and I was a bit confused whether I should write here or not, but anyway.

So, day before yesterday I was sitting on my chair after dinner and was thinking about my life and what the hell am I doing.

I realised that,
Saala bachpan se aaj tak race me hi bhaag raha hun. Pehle school me 1st, 2nd, 3rd aane ki race me. Then acche college milne ki race me. Then uske baad acchi job milne ki race me. Then uske baad agar ladki chahiye toh uske liye bhi ek race hai (Don’t have a gf, plz don’t take me wrong, it was a realisation)

My current daily routine is like this:
Wakeup everyday, write code, go gym, dinner, and then sleep and repeat this cycle everyday.

School ke dost peeche chhoot gaye, college ke dost apni life me busy ho gaye, colleagues se main zyada baat nhi karta and main akela padh gaya.

Feels like life is not intriguing anymore, it has no spark left. Its so painful to live everyday.

I feel like I don’t want to live any more, I want to die but I can’t cuz of 2 reasons.
1. I’m the only son of my parents.
2. If I die like this, then I won’t be able to come out from the birth cycle.

This week’s introspection

If you ask me, the purpose of life has to be more than climbing a self-constructed ladder. 

Like, it has to be more than a 3BHK in a metro, with two kids, a car and a prestigious job at a faceless corporation, 2 weeks of vacation and a movie on the weekend.

Isn’t this weird that, we all continue to fool ourselves? 

When you know nothing matters the universe is yours, and I've never met a universe that was into it. The universe is an animal, it grazes on the ordinary. It creates infinite idiots just to eat them. 

You know? Smart people get a chance to climb on top and take reality for a ride but it'll never stop trying to throw you. And eventually it will, there's no other way off
