i started my career in supply chain management at an OEM. During placement they told me how SCM helps in managing cost pressure, derisking thru identification of new vendors etc. most of the time i was chasing truck drivers to find out where is the material. Hell, Entire department was doing the same. Our strategic planning exercise was restricted to may be 1 week in the whole year. Now when a fresher who joins my team thinking they would be deciding million dollar capital investments or be Incharge of SBU's, i say "start your own business. Until then please fill-up this excel".
