Career advice

Context: I am 22 years old with a BBA degree from a tier 1 college. After college, worked as intern with a few online marketing startups for around 4-5 months, Post that joined a fintech company as an intern setting up a new vertical that they're building( part of first few hires). I've worked here for around 6 months as an intern and now that my internship is coming to an end I've been told that full time conversion is off the table but they'll gladly extend my internship period. Reason: performace not good enough. I feel purely from an opportunity standpoint continuing here would be great for me as there's a lot of scope for learning and growth however what makes me anxious is the fact that this wouldn't reflect well in my CV and hence would probably be a potential bottleneck in the future wrt higher education or switching companies for that matter.

Try negotiating the pay, if they’re telling you performance is not good enough why they’re extending the internship offer. They aren’t valuing your skills, walk away. If they stop you negotiate, if they don’t find a full time role somewhere.

There is a saying, in order to win you gotta leave it first. Don’t be afraid of walking away from opportunities/people that don’t value you as your worth :D Unless you’re shitty at what you do and have no faith on your own capabilities, LEAVE

Look I do feel that I'm valued and I'm good at what I do. This is probably one of the few companies which does have good work culture and a positive growth oriented environment which makes it all the more hard for me to decide to leave. My only question is would being an intern for an extended period of time be damaging to my CV from a higher education standpoint. Keep in mind my job responsibilities and the level of ownership that I'm being allowed here is well at par with what FTE roles can come to expect

When did you graduate from clg and which one? If you really care about good higher education in India please try finding a good ft role If not, do negotiate your stipend. I'd say keep looking for other roles, I understand the growth you're seeing here but being a ft employee will give you more ownership and money :p

I feel this is just their way of saving the money, if you're doing the work of a FTE which I think is the case here considering you're one of the first few hires then why not get paid for it? It's not at all about performance, if they don't like your performance why are they even extending the internship
