College and Software careers
Folks, need advice. My son has got admits in Manipal, Mechanical branch and MIT WPU, Pune Mechanical with Robotics. He is keen on a Career in software. Has been programming since 11th grade. What advice would you give him to move to software? And any feedback on colleges ?
In my opinion(based on my circumstances), well known means Minimum NIT, other than that, we need to get in to our interested fields.
Based on your situation, choices might differ.
But ultimately, based on both options (any B.tech), your son needs to work hard and either get into masters(on some best institutes) or try for PSU/IES.

Thanks, ultimately the final outcome is MS in the US
Manipal is safer option, try learning for competitive exams in B.tech. If your child survive in indian competition, he can survive in anywhere in the world.
Hello.
Honestly both colleges are good but not great.
Joining the mechanical branch and hoping for a software development job is slightly difficult but achievable with proper roadmap.
I would suggest you research a bit about companies visiting college . But manipal seems to be the right choice as of now.
You can DM me for more details, I have worked with careers360 and siksha as college counselor before.
I have good insights.
Note: I like doing college counselling and helping students FOC

Thanks, have DMed
If your son has only this two options and nothing else. Then mechanical with robotics will have some software component.

Yes, it does. Although I am wondering should we pick Manipal because its better known
Manipal is quite respected, and a better brand than MIT Pune.
Ultimately, enough people also are able to pursue coding while studying mechanical in college, and if it's their passion, they'll sail through.
Manipal will secure career much more.

Thanks for the input
On a very personal note, MIT WPU is not a very good college. If possible, Manipal would serve as a better springboard to his career.

Thanks, did u go to MIT or know people who went there?
I studied at MIT WPU. I am assuming he got into Kothrud campus? Or is it the other one?

Drop to get any branch in IITs/BITS/NITs or even IIITs/DTU/NSIT would be good. You can still get good IT jobs in any branch in these colleges.
In nameless colleges, you'll mostly end up in low paying jobs without a good college tag.
