I am a consultant at a Big 4 company, I work in data privacy primarily as a delivery lead for the industry. I have worked across clients from media and retail industries. How can I shift to product management?
You will have to sell your experience as product experience in that specific industry. Retail can help with cracking D2C/eCommerce roles. Media can help you get into OTT potentially.
Apply for every entry level position on LinkedIn, find the hiring manager, and sell your experience as relevant product experience in that industry.
Send 20-30 such cold emails and you might get a couple of interviews. Interview prep really hard. Like really hard. I've been a PM for 3 years, and yet, my interview conversion rate is absolute shit.
Read a couple of product management interview books cover to cover. Watch a bunch of mock interviews. Ideally, get a PM to do mock interviews with you.
Go through this hell for a good 1-3 years and you might get through.
Or wait for the market to get better. It's an absolute shit show at the moment.
