Yes, I realised I am still standing three years behind (knowledge-wise, nothing new learned which is transferrable to a new company, so I still only have skills and knowledge I had three years ago which is what got me hired in my current company) when I decided to look for new opportunities. Now spending after work hours and weekends learning new skills.

I've recently started my journey with a product-based company as a fresher, where my primary focus revolves around backend development using Node.js. Although I thoroughly enjoy delving into backend architecture and databases, I find myself at a crossroads. Before this, I accumulated 1 year of experience in web development, focusing on frontend development and software engineering.

Want to discuss if sabbatical being a taboo is valid and peoples opinions of it.
I will start with mine
Background - 
8 years in tech 
3 company switches 
Sabbatical of 1 month, 3 month and 6 month between each break.
Personal experience - quite enriching. Though there was panic and anxiety of not having a job during the period, it truly helped me take a step back, reassess my career trajectory, and mostly just Destress and re prioritise

Every now and then i loose my true love for tech and product and the sabbaticals helped me to rediscover that by just reading about technology that was not outcome driven ( like for switching a job) 
Quite rewarding each time in terms of salary jumps also. I think i was able to make a better case for myself at a particular position just because i had more time to process stuff from last job. 
It also helped me make better decisions for next thing which has in general helped me shape my career better ( i think atleast)

Hey I’m a final year grad at LSR, how do I get into IBD of JP Morgan, Deutsche, Nomura etc? Please can anyone help with guidance and referral?

How to get into JP Morgan IBD as an undergrad from tier 1 college ?

I can't seem to relate to much of the non-FAANG junta out there. I mean I have a cushy job with probably 0.1% pay of all SWEs(pretty much like all of us do). But these cookie-cutter roles have been taking a mental toll on me. Like I am getting paid but I feel a little purpose-less. What am I gunning for in this life? 

All my life I wanted to go to a good college to get into a good company. In college I wanted to get a good codeforces rank so that I could get into FAANG. Now that I am in FAANG I have nothing to look forward to. 

Any of you all feeling this way? Because I don't see myself offer-shopping and feeling much happy about that either.

Recently watched Soul on hotstar and this actually makes sense now. The character was trying hard to perform in front of a crowd and  when it happened he wasn't feeling any change at all. At that time, he was told about the fish and the ocean story :-

Are you building a side project yourself?

I work in a startup, been here for around 3 yrs. I have been applying continuously for a long time and am not even getting an interview call (Even with referrals sometimes)...
Is it my resume? But ATS parses it just fine? Maybe I have too much written in it.
I don't have a flashy college, company. That clearly hurts my chances, but what could I do now? 

I'm working on random projects I find interesting on the side, and thinking of posting some on linkedin for now. What else do you think I should do?

Advice for a tier 2-3 college SWE?

I am at Microsoft and the work has become monotonous with minimal learning. I am thinking of doing a side project to sharpen my skills and then switch company. How to get started with a side project? Any ideas?

Need Advice - SDE with No Coding Job

So I am working at a startup for around a year now. Everyday I see, it feels, what am I really doing? Where is the life headed? 
    Doing bare minimum or doing your tasks and fucking off isn't enough. It's expected that we outgrow constantly, as if it's this work that we can always think about and nothing else. At the end, am wondering if it's still worth it?
    1 day it feels that let's just quit it! Next day I feel, okay, I do want the money. 

I ain't looking for suggestions here, just wanted to see if anyone else felt this way

A Staff engineer :: AMA

Hello guys, I did alot of DSA in my college time (Tier 3 college), I got the highest marks in my DSA sem exams in my class and my professor was impressed with me, I gave leetcode contests, learned DSA from YT and so on. 

I got placed in a decent company with a 7.5 LPA package (while my best friend, who hardly knew DSA got a SDET role in a startup with 40 LPA), now after 2 years my pacakge is 10 LPA, I want to switch to a better company with good pay, I restarted practising DSA again but everytime I get stuck in some question and not able to solve it, it feels like I am wasting my time.

While in my job, I learned Angular, TypeScript and frontend dev (which interests me more than DSA, but I am too lazy to make my own side projects)

what should I do? should I stick on to DSA even though sometimes I just feel like I am wasting my time solving some random question which doesn’t justify anything about me? or beat my laziness and make some side projects with the frontend skills that I have?

any advice would help me. Thanks in advance.
