Yeah the market is shit,I still heard that some of them are getting calls. 
 I am an ML engineer with 2.5 yoe 
 I get calls from service based companies.Ideally I am looking to crack product based companies. 
  
 You need to be good at DSA + ML&DL. 
 To a point where you should know how to code dynamic programming,graph questions and log reg from scratch using numpy. 
 One of my friends was asked to code self-attention from scratch(transformers )in the interview. 
  
 The point is if you want to get into a good product based companies . 
 The bar has increased a lot.

I am seeing a lot of layoff related posts everywhere from news articles to LinkedIn.. Is the Job market really that bad now? Or just the media is projecting that way? 

If it's really bad, which department you think is the most affected? How's layoffs specifically in India? Or is it layoffs in US but more hiring in India due to cost cutting? 

Are layoffs in technology/engineering dept as in for developers or some other departments? Your thoughts please..

Job Market right now in India?

It is really bad right now 
 1. Layoffs in many of the companies, irrespective of whether they're a startup or a big MnC. 
 2. Almost everyone I know of wants to switch, because of no/less appraisals from last 2 years 
 3. Bad work life balance - people thinks switching might help 
 4. Too much competition for any open position. Because of too much supply, companies are low-balling and people would accept the offer.  
  
 Recruiters ghosting is too common. Even if you've killed in your interviews and recruiters get someone who's ready to join on less pay, they'll simply ghost you.

I spoke to an experienced guy in the IT sector who has worked in many FinTech firms and consulting companies. He said when the data science hype started several years back, companies started getting funds from venture capitalists to set up data science wings . Companies went on a hiring spree with this money to hire data science professionals.

However, as the years passed, these data science departments failed to generate revenue as expected. Also, some aspects of data science will very likely be automated. So companies will probably hire less data science professionals and may even fire the resources hired earlier.

I just went to LinkedIn and looked for Data Analyst and Data engineer roles, browsed some job posts in Bengaluru and some others. There are very few roles available and a lot of applicants for each job, forget entry level, there's very few posts for specific roles.

Same case with Indeed and others as well. I don't know when the situation will improve for this field

A lot of noise around AI taking coding jobs, which i fear might be real. Like not completely but you get my point. So how should one upskill themselves (especially the average folks, top 1/2% will not be affected in any field imo) for the upcoming shift? Like will data analytics/science or maybe ai/ml engineering jobs be on rise ? Should be start upskilling in those fields or any other suggestions? I would really like to know it from someone who has good experience in the industry or someone with good insight. Thanks

after reading the comments I am more confused coz I’m very stubborned with one decision that SDE is not the work I want to do , I really wanna get in ML based jobs like Data Science or AI Engineer or Data Analyst… I know market is not good for data Engineers now but I wanna settle in Other foreign countries for my livelihood and so wanna get in to this field but then a question arises , should I do my masters or work in a company for 1-2 years to gain experience and then search for foreign companies, can someone help me really need one

One of my friend got laid off and he started searching for all kinds of job.  
Even in such a rescission drowned market jobs for software developers is not less. But on contrast the data engineering market is just doomed and every 10 Dev job there is 1 data job.

Switched to a series a startup at 16.35l base all fixed ,it's been 3 months now and the wlb is very agreesive although the learnings is good and I am working on core genai,llms,classical models,but want to switch to a chill minc with a. Decent 30 percent hike
Is it fine? Will it look good on resume?

Hi everyone,
            I am a Masters student from Tier1 College(Please do not think I'm bragging about the clg I'm in but to give better idea about myself) will be completing by May 2024 previously graduated from a Tier 3 college in 2021 and before doing masters I had worked in DRDO for about couple of months as JRF (So I'm a fresher).
Please go through my resume and suggest me about getting a Job in SDE.
I understand there will be very less SDE jobs in future and I tried preparing for AI/ML roles but I really do not enjoy AI but still having some knowledge in AI domain (but not enough to work in AI roles) and I have very less hands on experience in doing AI projects but I have good experience in software development and want to leave the AI boat and whatever happens work more on Software development (as I feel it is not possible to travel in both the boats). 
I really applied quite a lot in linkedin, wellfound and other job boards but did not get any response from them. Kindly please suggest me what's wrong with my resume or what should I focus on in order to get a Job.
I was expecting 12LPA but now seems getting a job is a blessing.

I've been an Oracle Database Administrator handling databases and exadata, data guard, performance tuning (not so great at it), little bit of Oracle Cloud Infrastructure as well and typical DBA tasks including tablespace reorganization, migrations, etc. for the last 3 years. 

Now I'm thinking about transitioning into a Data Engineer/Data Analyst roles as it seems it is having a more lucrative future ahead.

I'm good at doing DBA things but I'm doubtful about this considering the future scope of this as there isn't much a DBA has to do in databases as most of the work is handled by Database itself but I have an interest in it and getting calls from other companies as well for the same role.

Is DBA a really good career option considering the future and the compensation?

Or exploring or gaining skills in data engineering/analyst has more benefit?

Also, what would be the best among Data Engineer/Data Analyst/AI,ML Engineer?
