Did you ever ask your Manager/HR for a salary raise ? How did that discussion go ?
Maybe it was just some situation in your favour and you decided to just go for it ?
If not you, have you seen any colleague/friend doing it. What were their/your talking points?
I'm planning to do it, need tips.
- Internship to Permanent scene.
Always resign with a job in hand.
Are sir, Mai ja rha hu...They asked the package I was getting and gave 30% hike over it and stopped me.
- Again Decided to move on after 3y due to a toxic lead who was mgr fav.
Again with a job in hand.
Are sir...jaane do ab!
Mgr -- Kitna Paisa Mila h?
Me 100% hike.
Mgr - Ohh... please stop...we will match it.
Me - Cricket 🏏 nahi khel rha mai...am going and it's decided. Told him reasons also.
Mgr - You were nothing when u joined firm, now got so much knowledge and now betraying firm bla bla...
Me - I agree, I learnt but my skills are worth more. So time to move on. Am not ditching u.
Conclusion - always resign with a job in hand and make up ur mind regarding what outcome u want from the discussion
the situation in my favour:
many people resigned because of some issues with the company recently, but the company is stable and would be able to provide salary hike
I have seen a friend in my previous company asked for raise and didn't get one. He got another job with significant hike, and notified the manager that he would like to resign. All of sudden, the manager made a counter offer and made my friend to stay. Fast forward 1 year later, my friend was PIPed and managed out as he was considered flight risk. Never accept a counter offer !
+1, counter offer are too late too little, if they didn’t value you earlier and are suddenly valuing after the person comes back with an offer, its too late by then
Got laid off lolll
I got 3 increments in the first 1.5yr of my job.
1st -> Hey, the median salary is higher, I'm doing well, you ought to pay me above median. Little back and forth and got it done.
2nd -> I'm working hard, it should reflect in compensation. Didn't work out.
I outright said that I'm in this company for work and compensation. If the comp part doesn't play out, my future here is indecisive. Got my increment that month itself.
3rd -> Annual cycle, I had been tracking metrics quantitatively every 1-1 with the manager. Career progression, performance, and promotion. Checked all the boxes. This was my lowest increment overall in that company.
Threats work best, straight up asking and nagging second, and meritocracy third. Caveat: Performance needs to be at the highest standards. I think I missed out because I didn't participate (nor understood) the office politics.
